Yuka Kobayashi
I have been reading Bout Review articles on Smack Girl, and people these days are talking about Yuka Kobayashi, a 5'1, 100lg karateka who is fighting girls who outweigh her by 100lbs or so, and doing well. Does any one have any background info on her or her dojo, Nishiyama Dojo? which organization is is apart of?

Kobayashi's Sensei, Shihan Nishiyama, is the head instructor at the Tokyo Honbu of Ashihara Kaikan and the Honbu Dojo is the same as Nishiyama Dojo (Kobayashi's dojo). So Kobayashi is also a fighter of Ashihara Kaikan. Last year she won the All-Japan (no weight division) of Shinkyokushinkai (some of best fighters did not compete in preparation for the World Cup that immediately followed - though Kobayashi also fought in it and got an impressive bronze medal) . In Japan she is famous not only for her fighting success, but also her good look. Besides her tournament career, she also appears in tv, radio, magazines (not necessarily martial arts related). On the top page of her dojo there is information about her management company. In Japan she is nicknamed "The cutest/lovliest karateka in history".

Cool. Ive seen some of her fights from smack girl, and wondered which group she was from. However when Ive seen her in karate-gi, I tought that the kanji on her DoGi have not looked like a ashinhara kanji.
Ive seen her name in shinkyokushin competition results, but since I didnt know she was from ashihara kaikan (who often competes in shinkyokushin tournaments) I have not connect the name with her.

interesting article guys, how would "Shizuka Murakami" fight her?
Shizuka Murakaki has lechi's jumping high mawashi geri.(not doumawashi)

Dear Martin H:
Yes indeed the kanji on her dojo reads "Nishiyama Dojo" but not "Ashiharakaikan". By the way, her kohai, Okada Makoto has also competed in Smack Girl events (MMA). OSU!

Dear daisukey:
They once were in the same tournament but they did not meet since they were in adjacent weight categories. Murakami trains under Sensei Yasuda (a famous lightweight fighter in Japan, student of Shihan Nakamura Makoto) and she also won the All-Japan (under 50kg) last year. She is strong with her left jodan mawashi and also domawashi geri. She did well in the 5th Women's World and only lost to Yelena Vorobiyova (the champion). She also once competed in an women's fighting event called "Ten-ku"(which means "the sky") which is similar to "Smackgirl". She lost on points to a Japanese fighter from the Chiba prefecture. Fighters like Agnieszka Sypien, Ewa Pawlikowsaka, Kimura Miyoko and Yelena Vorobiyova have also fought in one-match fights in "Ten-ku". Writing this edit after seeing your edit:  I do think that is a domawashi. She wrote in a questionnarie that her special waza is "domawashi". And in the offcial tv programmes of IKO-Matsui she was billed as having "sword of domawashi".OSU!

Any Yuka Kobayashi footage or highlights anyone (I was actually being coy and requesting an upload in the media section) ? I was meaning to ask about TenKu. I thought it was gloved Karate. I know Smack Girl is MMA. Unless you mean TenKu is the Kobayashi special match Karate rules that Yuka has in Smack.

I have seen her and seen her fights. The funny thing is she doesnt look like a Karate-ka, she looks so innocent. But they way she takes those big girls is amazing.

She and her kohai Okada Madoka (reigning All-Japan Middleweight Karate Champion) are scheduled to fight in a new Smackgirl event on 30/06.
In full-contact karate rules: Kobayashi Yuka(Nishiyama Dojo) vs TBA In SGS rules (middleweight 5minsX2rounds): Okada Madoka(Nishiyama Dojo) vs Tachiwaki Yui (Kuka Club) Fighters from Zendokai and Keishukai also fight in the tournament. OSU!

Dear kyokushin dave,
The lady on the left is Tabayama and on the right there is Okamoto Yoriko. They are both top japanese taekwondo athletes. And Okamoto got an olympic gold in sydney (I do not know much about Tabayama). OSU!

I have never been attracted to girls into martial arts... for many years I looked within the kendo ranks and did not once see a cutie, but Yuka is hella cute. I'm a new fan. Go Yuka... GANBARE! Osu!
