Chuck liddel's karate style?
I noticed that Chuck Liddel has a tatoo that says "Koeikan". It sounds like a karate style so I googled. This is what I found out.

Quote:
Koei-kan was established in 1952 by master Eizo Onishi. The first dojo opened in Kanagawa-Ken Japan on April, 2nd, 1954. Many styles of martial arts are currently being taught in the United States, and are often modified into styles more suitable to the American methods of self defense. But Koei-kan remains firm in its traditionally ancient and authentic teaching methods and has not been altered. Koei-kan teaches as if you were learning in the Orient with all its traditional methods which includes the art, philosophy, and meditation.

yeah, they compete in Bogu..In the past I almost joined this style because I used to work and go to college for many years just minutes away from a koei kan dojo. I know that Lidell got up to shodan in this style but I'm not sure if he ever got any higher. He later switched to a style of Kempo and has his own SLO kickboxing gym, now.

He is the current UFC champion for his weight class Couture retired after the last bout he had with Lidell. Yes, whatever Lidell does it works, to me, his style looks very sloppy but I definitely respect the man. What I mean is, the way he strikes are big "no no's" in boxing/kickboxing/muay thai. His sprawl is awesome, and his overall defense to being submitted. Then again, he is a purple belt in brazilian jiu jitsu. He has a lot of "unseen" power in his hands. Some of his punches don't look that powerful but they still somehow knock out people.

Yah, I agree with the sloppy part, but he does have good technique and knows what do to do in the ring.

Lidell is a american kempo practicioner now.
Not sure what his actual style is called, but it is descending from Ed Parker in some way or another.
It has no connection to kyokushin or any other knockdown style..
