Thanks, sounds good, although I'd prefer a more "karate" style to pure kickboxing. I will go along and watch a class as you suggest.
http://www.shidokan.co.uk/ This is the place, does anyone train there? If so what's it like? |

There's still a Kyokushin "flavor" to Shidokan, but it's definitely more suited toward kickboxing/muay thai and MMA. The reason for having an approach toward kickboxing was because Yoshiji Soeno had some experience fighting Nak Muays in Thailand along with his running partner, Terutomo Yamazaki. As for the grappling part, I'd say that a Shidokan karateka is adequately trained to deal with ground-fighting and clinching, but a pure submission grappler would still give them a hard time.

Shidokan is famous for its relationships with the right-wing yakuza.

You can search for Shidokan Karate on www.youtube.com. They have some highlight videos including an open tournament where Kyokushin fighters take part of it.

Wikipedia has a page on shidokan.
I was suprised to read in it that they still had trad katas. I had heard that they had removed them. Shidokan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Im not sure how accurate that is - it mentions that Soeno won the Kyokushin World Open Karate Tournament.

i must admit that I missed that when I read it.
Thats unfortunately the problem with Wiki. There is always someone who enter incorrect info, being convinced it is true (and sometimes intentionally misleading lies). Still, then it is the job of those with better info to correct it.

wiki is a site anyone can add info to it...
I really don't think it is all that accurate do to this or possible that it has not been updated by the person who first entered the info??? |

Jap Man and Martin are right
Even with the best of intentions things get posted on Wiki that arent true whether deliberatley or in the belief the info is accurate when it is not. Anything written on Wiki needs to be backed up by independent data.

hehe, being a student I'm largly dependet on wiki but I learnt to be careful. Wiki is all good and well for a start, the links it presents are most of the time better and double or three times checking information is well worth it.
Just to give an example of how bad wiki can be: one of my history professor gave us an assigment to look up something (something renaissance-stuff) and present our findings in class. What we didn't know was, that she manipulated the article in wiki and it normally takes three or four days to get it corrected again, so we only saw the manipulated article. Next lecture we presented what we found and she had a great laugh, telling us all we were fooled. Out of the 15, we were only three, who noticed something was wrong. Lesson learned: wiki all good for a quick look-up but nothing more. Rather depend on some hard-copy book. ![]()

shidokan is tough because it contains kyokushin,mu thai, grappling, soeno took the best from the three and started the training of the samurai,2 walk the path of the brave, stubbern, and strong. i would rank shidokan as one of the best 4 street fights

I find wiki is good for simple facts about non-controversial things. However, if you hit the domain of political or historical interpretation, the reliability is only as good as the objectivity of the last edit!. Great idea tho...i love wiki.

i must admit that shidokan kinda lost the kyokushin spirit in fighting but i have to say as said by fighting spirit it is the best in a street fight ( beside running away >_< lo0ol ) , buti heard that seono is the 1st kyokushin fighter to have won the muy thai tornament....... nd come on its my branch i have to back it up
