Osu,
On Saturday, the USKBA sanctioned Battle of Brooklyn featured Knockdown Sogo Karate for the first time. The event was posted in the Kyokushin4life event section. Sensei Masahiko Honma (http://honmadojo.com) and Sensei Miguel Rios (http://bayonnekarate.com) conducted the Exhibition and proudly represented traditional Knockdown Karate at the event. Among the many Muay Thai and San Da fighters and Sambo and BJJ grapplers that were in attendance, it was great to see two Karateka in white Karate Gi's with black belts around their waists. I will post a link to a clip of the Exhibition as soon as it is available. The entire event was also taped by http://insidemartialarts.tv and will be featured in an upcoming episode. It was a well received night of traditional Martial Arts and the the post-event feedback we have received has been fantastic. I would like to thank the Kyokushin4life forum members that came down to support Karate in New York. One example of the feedback is as follows: "Awesome show big brother, thanks for the first class treatment BOB is going to take over New York mark my words (no pun intended) finally a show that Martial Artist can go to not just Muay Thai, San Da, but Karate, Sambo and Jiu Jitsu. See you at clash of the clans." Battle of Brooklyn VII will be in October. Now that we have performed the first ever Sogo Karate Exhibition, it is our NUMBER 1 GOAL to feature a number of actual Knockdown Sogo Karate bouts. Any NY/NJ/CT/PA Karateka that are interested in competing in October, please let us know and we will be in contact when we start building the fightcard: marknegron@msn.com Of course, we wil post all Sogo Karate event info in the Kyokushin4life Event Finder, so keep an eye out! I saw the match and I am gushing just thinking about future Sogo events. Sensei Honma and Rios were really nice guys and answered alot of my questions.
I can't wait for some Sanda vs Karate or Muay Thai vs karate bouts either. This is so exciting. One question though, as the rules are tweaked, will be seeing face punches? Perhaps with space helmets? |

Thanks for coming down! Anything is possible for the future, including face punches. IMO, Sensei Honma decided on these rules because he wanted to maintain the unique characteristics of traditional Karate, especially for Sogo Karate's introduction into the Battle of Brooklyn. He didn't want to turn it into kickboxing. But again, anything is possible as the rules are tweaked. And of course, if we bring Karate to the Clash of the Clans (style vs style), then face punching will be included. Osu |

Good to hear that it went well.
I wanted to go, but family situation didn't allow for it. Hope to attend in October. vapor |
