The weight division is a good thing, but the weight so that they have split (67 kg - from 67 to 77 -77 open) it's quite unintimate expecially for who is accustomed to fight in category like 70-80- 80 open, if you understand.

But isn't that the point of having a separate Weight category championships? But I guess the Union is lacking numbers at least for now...

How was the draw decided?
For illustrative purpose we assume that there are 64 people in the tournament: 1. First of all, the two 1st Japanese seeds are decided. One of them will be put to the beginning of court A (#1) and the other will be at the end court D (#64). 2. The two 2nd Japanese seeds are decided. They are at the end of court B (#32) and the beginning of court C (#33). 5. The four 1st overseas seeds are decided. End of A court (#16), beginning of court B (#17), end of Court C (#48) and beginning of court D (#49). 4. The three 3rd Japanese seeds are decided. They are put to the opposite side of the 1st overseas seeds at #9, #24, #11, #56. 5. The four 2nd overseas are decided. They are put to the opposite side of the 1st overseas seeds at #8, #26, #40, #57. 6. The rest is decided by drawing lots. No fighters from the same country (for Japanese it will be the same dojo) will fight each other up to the 3rd round. Lots will be drawn again till these requirements are met. # This rule does not apply to Australia fighters in the heavyweight category where they have eight participants. 7. Seeds are decided on recommendations from Shihans in all countries. For Japanese fighters those who have goods results in All-Japan, All-Japan Weight and past tournaments. OSU!

Dear sublimo,
That is cool and I hope that he will do well in this tournament. The Japanese whom he sparred with looks like the smaller one of the Kikuyama brothers (who were both featured at the discovery channel show). OSU!

Definitely Masaaki Shimajiri from Japan since he is defending champion.
Two of my friends in Australia placed top 16 at the last tournament but I don't think they are training Kyokushin anymore... ![]() |
