The rumours about the bias judging aren't rumours, they're the truth. I know as I was there for both days.
Whilst some home town bias is to be expected, it is a subjective sport after all, a blind man could've seen that there was numerous horrendous decisions. Particularly against Dane Carroll from Australia, (vs the eventual heavy winner), and also against a Spanish fighter, (don't recall his name, vs second place heavy I think from memory). Infact someone from the Spanish supporters threw a chair onto the mat in protest! Probably the worst decision went against a British lightweight, absolutely cleaned up on of the Japanese favourites on day one but didn't get the flags. Crazy. I for one thought it was disgusting, particularly as the Union is try to grow the organisation and this is how they treat the rest of the world. That said there was some great fights, tru grit and budo spirit shown by many fighters. The vast majority took the foul decisions with humility and respect, although a few did spit the dummy! Osu, Smokey.
Really, these 2 fights what you said was a unclear result. Against Dane i think so and with the Jonathan Thineo(The Spanish fighter) i'm really sure. These things, mistakes, errors, etc by judges was debated and explainned in the General Assembly. Was in accord will be more refereeing meetings and more overseas judges in the next tournaments. As you said, the Union is trying to grow, and i think this littles mistakes will be down. Last edited by Boaretto; 02-23-2008 at 02:42 AM. Reason: the name |

Your man took a few heavy hits in the beginning but looked pretty good from there - I would have called for extension too.

Blimey - if they stay like this the HW division is starting very light!! What are they going to do with those women weighing in at 70 or even 80 kgs?

Dear DKKC,
Well if they go with the current definitions (not the final version) then these ladies will simply go to the HW group. Perahps if they have enough heavy ladies they will change the weight limits or open a new group? OSU!
