I kind of expected Shiojima to at least make it to the semi-finals, but oh well. Thanks for posting the info everyone.

Shiojima were no match for the height, size and the hiza geri of his last opponent.
OSU!

Yesterday I got to see the 2nd round. Some quick impressions... one, the Japanese are getting the decisions and its pretty obvious that the Russians are pissed everytime they have a fellow countryman fighting a Japanese. One time yesterday (cant remember the exact fighter) after a Russian lost by decision to a Japanese fighter, the seconds (the support staff) raised their middle fingers in the air. It was the most lewd thing Ive ever seen. I was shocked. Such poor sportsmanship!
The Brazilians look amazing. Like seriously all of them. Tanaka, Nakahara, Teixera, da Silvas, etc. I also like Artur. Some of the Russians are making it through to the Finals... they also look amazing, but not all of them - and again the sportsmanship issue. The Japanese are the most technical fighters. They are clearly smaller but they never give up and are solid in the inside fight. Aso is a big dude, but most everyone is tiny. Uchida had such a weird fight yesterday. He fought a guy from SE Asia... like Indonesia maybe... and the other guy just ran around and didnt engage Uchida at all for 2 minutes. People were booing and hissing. The other guy was clearly scarred or something. Anyways they gave the decision to Uchida but like seriously there was a total of maybe 5 punches thrown at best. Lots of jodan mawashi geri and shita tsuki ippons! Amazing. Deadly. Couple guys got KOed and didnt get up long after the fight was done. I am so proud of our American Los Angeles fighters. Shohei Yamamoto and Zensaku Man made it to the 3rd round. Shohei lost to Kidachi the all Japan middleweight champion by decision in the enbu and Zensaku also lost after going to the weights and fighting a 2nd enbu by decision. Shohei in the 2nd round gave a wazaari and got it back with seconds to go and then won by decision. Amazing for an 18yr old. He will be back no doubt. My guess is Teixera goes all the way through. He is built like a beast! OSU! |

Mike san, I agree with the sportsmanship. That was terrible and he should be ashamed!
The russians are super tough and most of them made it through to the 3rd round. Before I continue, these are fighters that impressed me after the 2nd day. Ewerton Teixeira, Eduardo Tanaka, Darmen Sadvokasov, Alejandro Navarro, Andrews Nakahara, Artur Hovhannisian, Andrey Stepin, Yoshiaki Uchida (Kentaro Tanaka looked solid too) Other fighters(that lost) impressed me were fighters from USA "Zensaku Man" and especially a young "Shohei Yamamoto". Shohei Yamamoto is only a 18 yold but he looked so sharp and technical. A quick ushiro mawashigeri nearlly caught Kidachi! A lot of fighters like Osamu Shiojima, Kozlov, Habraska, Makoto Akaishi, Gogonel did not do enough to convince the judges to give them flags.. Although I thought Habraska won his 1st round vs Yuzo Suzuki... in the final round it was even. Lechi was too much for a Japanese Yuto Watanabe. I expected more from Yuto but he couldnt do much against the powerful Lechi. Yuki Fukui vs a greek Leonidas Antoni.. I thought Leonidas took the fight(at least the 1st round? I dont remember).. anyway Yuki did a lot better vs Licuan Gogonel. Stepin vs Makoto Ikemoto. Stepin looked more powerful and more damaging but the quick makoto Ikemoto was more active and moving around. If there wasnt that Stepins ushirogeri that made Makoto fall on his butt I dont think Stepin would have won it. But he did! I think Eddie te Ahu of NZ did really well against Naoki Ichimura but Eddie looked really tired in the end. Well done to him(NZ!). (ps) Sorry no PIX! It was strictly prohibited inside the arena so we are not allowed to postany pics of the event!(unless thephotos are from the official site!) I managed to take pics with Plekanov and the k-1 fighter Pichukunov. I also got an autograph of Andrews Nakahara. lol! Last edited by nzproud; 11-18-2007 at 12:29 AM. |

Mistake
There's something wrong with the last results. The Block D posted results are the same of the previous fights.
