K.O. Last Man Standing Full Contact
Osu!

I'm posting this on behalf of the tournament participants. Nice to see Southern Africa keeping strong tournaments alive!

Osu!

Two weekend ago saw a joint tournament organised by Ashihara Karate (Kaicho
Hoosain Narker) and Kyokushin Karate Union (Shihan Bas van Stenis). Held at
the University of the Western Cape, the hall was kindly organised by African
Enshin Karate (Shihan Trevor Fredericks). Cooperation amongst these three
groups have been in existence for a while and everyone are excited to future
events and even greater cooperation for the benefit of all students.

Named the K.O. Last Man Standing Full Contact championships, the event drew
competitors from as far afield as Zimbabwe and Swaziland as well as
Johannesburg. The tournament was limited to a select group of fighters and
the winner and two runner-ups received for the first time in such an event,
a sizeable prize money. Shihan Bas has already been talking to possible
sponsors who are interested in getting involved in 2009 so great things are
on the table to reward our gladiators.

The Winners in the two divisions were:

Lightweight

1. Bongani Zunga (IFK Gauteng)

2. Hakeem Meyer (KU Green Point)

3. Lwazi Dlamini (Ashihara Swaziland)

Heavyweight

1. Samson Muripo (KU Zimbabwe)

2. George Mutambo (KU Zimbabwe

3. Kelly Mtisi (KU Zimbabwe)

Entries came from

Ashihara Swaziland

Kyokushin Greenpoint

Kyokushin Salie

Kyokushin Barker

Kyokushin IFK Gauteng

Kyokushin Zimbabwe

Special mention must be given to the Zimbabwe team who travelled here under
adverse conditions. One can only admire their spirit and they certainly are
excellent examples of Osu no Shinobu. The last Sosai Oyama would have been
proud of their efforts and endeavours. What was particularly good was to see
Shihan Stephen Helm after a long time.
