Dear felipekl,
Byakuren is a full-contact style and the founder was a student of Shorinji Kempo. Minami Shihan came second in one All-Japan Weight (lost to Tamura Yoshihiro Shihan) and he was greatly praised by Oyama Sosai. OSU!

Felipekl,
Byakurenkaikan, as kakatootoshi pointed out, is a full contact style derived not from Kyokushin as most other FC styles are, but from the Shorinji Kempo of So Doshin. I think it is a beautiful style. The style's syllabus is comprised of Goho (hard methods or techniques) and Juho (soft methods or techniques.) The Goho is the striking we more commonly associate with karate. It's the kicking and punching. Sugihara Kancho was a great fighter in his own right participating and winning some of the early Seidokaikan All Japan tournaments. This was highly unusual for a fighter who didn't come from a Kyokushin derived style. I actually own some of those videos and have seen Sugihara Kancho's fighting style. Very Impressive!!! In the teachings of Byakuren today, you can see alot of the sabaki more commonly associated with styles like Ashihara Karate and Enshin Karate. The Juho is made up of the kansetsu waza (joint locking techniques) that were a mainstay of Shorinji Kempo. They resmble chin na techniques of Chinese MA or the immobilization techniques of classical jujutsu. Byakurenkaikan produces some really great champions. I have seen several of their All Japan tournaments and have really been impressed with the fighting. One of their former heavyweight champions is this phenomenal fighter from Louisville, Kentucky named Brent Weedman. I have seen him in action and have trained with him at a seminar. He is very good. His father Bill Weedman, is the US Branch Chief for Byakurenkaikan. One last thing, Sugihara Kancho was the referee for the now famous battle that took place between US Oyama Karate (now known as World Oyama Karate) and Seidokaikan. Osu, Miguel Rios

Felipekl,
In short. Byakuren is a splintergroup from Nippon Shorinji kempo, that competes with kyokushin knockdown karate rules, and due to this has grown technically closer to kyokushin. The founder competed in knockdown and was banished from shorinji as a result. Byakuren cooperates a lot with shin-kyokushin. All in all, I kind of like it
