I have also read that the fluid footwork of Shihan Kazumi Hajime comes from his practice of Iken (something like a zig/zag form of slowly walking back and forth?)
And my limited understanding of Yiquan/Iken/Taikiken stops here.

I found a site on taikiken where it describes how to practice Hai I think this might be Iken you are reffering to when you mentioned Shihan Kazumi Hajime

http://www.taikiken.org/book_crawling.html

The site has a lot of info, including some profiles of what I guess are the most well known taikiken practitioners.

Dear Ant,
Gundam training is to have a partner dressed in very heavy protective gear (belly, arms, thighs, shins) and you can practice on him or her with full-force.

The idea is to develop explosive short distance impact power .

a good exercice is : stand in kiba dachi , reach with your hands
as if you are pulling something heavy out of the ground while breathing in.
Hold your breath with your hands at shoulder hight.
not too long , just a little
Than trow your hands forward and release all the air that is in your lungs
(sort of kiai .)
Beware , you might get dizzy in the beginning (hyperventilation).
Repeat this 10X a few times a day and you will see
your punches will become much more explosive .
Just try and give some feedback .

After looking at the pictures in Kyokushinkan's site I just realised that Kyokushin used to have a kokutsu dachi similar to the Shotokan's one. Never known that before.
