Kyokushin in Los Angeles
Ous! Greetings in the name of Kyokushin. Hope all is well with you. I used to take Kyokushin in Greenburgh, New York under Shihan Clyde K. Coy as a youth. I am looking to find out the changes made to Kyokushin post Master Oyamas death. I noticed added on belts as well. Also, I'd like to look into possibly finding a dojo that teaches the original style before venturing forth to possibly joining a revised one. Any information on the subject of Kyokushin would be greatly apreciated.

Ous,

Osu! I'm on of the new generations training in kyokushin, and I;m not very familiar with dojos/organizations in USA. Have you seen any "Enshin Karate" dojos around where you live? it's led by Shihan Ninomiya who was one of the top rankers in the 1st world tournament. Osu!

As far as I know I don't think there is a kyokushin dojo which still teaches in the old way. I know there are several changes made to Kata and kihon (especially Gedan barai) after Sosai's death.

Anyway, you can try http://www.yamakius.com/ operated by Shihan Yamaki (a world champion).
I don't think there will be many people remain if a dojo is in the old way in the US.
When I instruct, I tried to balance myself between the old kyokushin style and soft style so people shows up next class.....

Good luck.

old school= always though training, and only full contact sparring.
New school= reasonably though training, and occationaly full contact sparring.
the idea being that not many are willing to pay large sums of money to get hit and train like it was done in the old days.

If you look at vids from sosais dojo you can see students get hit with shinai to remeber to hold correct form. _Every_ training ended with a "sparring" session where people regularly got KOŽd almost every session.
If you did that today, you would most likely get sued (in a suing-happy country like USA) and would atleast lose to many students to be able to afford the dojo rent.

There has been a change in mindsets on what is acceptable, and to stay in buissness, some dojos ease up on the severity of the training. Im not saying that they have become McDojos. But they are not as grueling and though as they once were.
