How old one could be to start practicing ?
Hi k-mates:
I practiced kyokushin for a year and half when I was sixteen, about 27 years ago. Now ate age 43 I started again but my body is not the same .I wonder if with sufficient training and time I will reach some degree of the speed and technique that I had when was a teen? ![]() |

Well -maybe not. But you can have a lot of fun trying! Actually though, trying to beat your sixteen-year-old self is actually just likely to result in injuring yourself.
why not value the skills that being older and (hopefully) wiser gives you - a better ability to read people, a more analytical, less impulsive approach, more patience, more diligence. there are definite ups to being older! Just enjoy yourself, and stay healthy! ![]()

It is great that you are back in the saddle again...be mindful of what your body can and can't do!!
In time, I am sure that you will be able to press yourself more and more....much to your similar-age peers envy outside the dojo! vapor

You can train at any age. The key to old persons training (you have yet to get to that age) is the dojo structure and the Sensei. If you go to a dojo that is full of young 14-35 then the training will ignore you as a old person and you will find it hard to get over the hump of starting out older.
If the dojo has a mixed age and a few old instructors, then they will see you for whop you are (a person of "X" age) and work with you accordingly. Also if the dojo is transfixed on tourney fighting and putting out fighters then just keep looking for another dojo. Also don't focus on the style but focus only on the Sensei and the syllabus of the dojo. |

Thanks all for the input, it's very valuable.
Fortunately in my Dojo there are several around 40-50 years old. Also the Shijan is a little older than me. OSU! |
