Question kyokushin-kan kyokushin union?
In this page,
Organizations - Kyokushin 4 Life Wiki

It says that they are both rengokai? Is this wrong?

Kyokushin union is led by Shihan Kazuyuki Hasegawa, Saiko Shihan Daigo Oishi, Shihan Yasuhiro Shichinohe and more.

and Kyokushin-kan is led by Royama Hatsuo?

Which is known as rengokai?

Yes, that is wrong.
Rengokai is the union. I have to check up on the formal name for kyokushin-kan, but it does not have the word rengokai in it.

Hatsuo Royama leads IKO 6 (formally named "Kyokushin-Kan"), while Tabata leads IKO 5 ALL JAPAN KYOKUSHIN UNION (formally named "Kyokushin Rengokai").
This for create distinction porperly in the name "Kyokushinkai" for each Group. Ex.: IKO 1 Kyokushinkaikan - IKO 3 Kyokushin Kaikan - IKO 4 Kyokushin Kai Kan, IKO 5 Kyokushin Rengokai, and so on.

Is the naming differences the capitalization and spacing of "kai" and "kan," because if that is so then in kanji all three of those listed above variations would be the same. There is no discrepancies of capitalization or spacing in Japanese...

Dear Martin H,
The proper name of Kyokushinkan is "Kyokushin Karatedo Renmei Kyokushinkan".

So would Kuristina Oyama's group be considered IKO 7?

Why not? I guess that some people would protest for different reason, but the numbers are purely taken out of the air anyway, and only there because all the groups insist on being called the same thing (except for IKO2 which use the name WKO in japan, but still use IKO in many places outside of japan) and we need to separate them when we are talking about them somehow.

I dont really agree that Kyokushin kan and Kyokushin union ought to be called IKO5&6 at all, since they dont use the IKO name. I think "kyokushinkan" and "union" are fine for them
But it does not really matter as long as everyone use the same terminology.
I know that there are atleast two variations of the IKO1-4+ (the original created in Shah´s old forum and one created by Van Velde´s Site), where only IKO1 and IKO2 refers to the same groups. As you might expect, this opens for some confusion.

Maybe we should make our own Official abbreviation list to :-)

BTW. thanks Kakatootoshi. I knew it was something like that.

Dear Martin H,
I think IKO is actually part of the name of "Rengokai" (Kokusai Karatedo Renmei Zennihon Kyokushin Rengokai) and many of their dojos are just called "Kokusai Karatedo Renmen Kyokushinkaikan XXX Dojo".

OSU!

Maybe the criteria for being called IKO is to not admit the presence of other groups, lol... Most of the websites seem to indicate they are the one and only organization.

That's just my personal observation so feel free to correct me!
