Stupid question - is there any 'secret' to healing your shins quickly?
I walked into elevated forks of a forklift the other day and really bashed my shins up nice, then today when we did kumite they really throbbed because of the previous bashing they had taken. I was wondering if there was any secrets to helping heal bruised shins. Even the simplest roundhouse kick, when blocked, throbs.

The oldest healer in the world. Time. Don't rush it. Recover first, and go from there. Repetitive injury can cause a permanent weakness. Osu!

I'm with Dent time just give it time, only wish you could get it in a cream as I'm running out of it!
When I've bashed my shins up a bit I actually wear two sets of shin pads for sparing - once you've fully healed you can work on shin conditioning but never aggravate a bad shin I know of fighters who had to retire in their 20's coz of this.

Just give the shins time to heal. Perhaps you could buy one of those cold packs and use them. Some people find this to be a little odd, but don't use ice. Instead, use a package (hopefully sealed) of frozen peas or corn. They tend to form very nicely and evenly wherever they're placed. Once the bag is slightly thawed, you can toss it back into the freezer and pull out another one. Also, wearing some padding could help but mostly importantly ... beware of the attacking forklift ...

I have a couple of tubes of arnica cream that I picked up in Europe for sale....in one of the for sale threads!! Don't know if this is easy for you to find in your neighborhood....I sure know it hasn't even been heard of in mine---thus picking some up when I was on the other side of the pond!

I'll bite... What is Arnica cream, and why do my fellow Karateka speak so highly of it? (Google giving some obvious idea, but not why some of you swear by it. Secret? )Osu!

Tip noted and thanked for! ![]() I'm going to try and find some, and compare it to the Shane Muscle Heat. (Which is my current favourite.) I know it's hard to comparison shop without the personal experience, so I'll provide some feedback after I find the Arnica. (Not sure about the horse level stuff though. I was given some gel supposedly for racehorses. Well, that stuff will turn anyone into a racehorse. Slightly hotter than nuclear war. )Osu!

I'm a skeptic, yet I've got to say, the arnica cream is tops. Plus, The Great Mender (some Chinese herbal meds you can get) I have come to believe in as well. Also, for shins, I am a firm believer in heat. And, as frustrating as it is, complete healing before the next shin contact.

Arnica, double shinpads (or just NO sparring at all till their gone) I also apply ice spray immediately after i feel it happen (in the dojo, this makes the bruises come up less and takes down my healing time) More arnica, also after a day or two (not sooner) i use the shower let the water stream over the bruise and switch between hot and cold (finishing with cold). Last but not least i tend to put the bruised leg on two pillow`s at night (elevating it) making sure my leg is higher then my hip.

Mildly off topic, but reading this reminds me that we're all crazy. ![]() What other group spends so much time with shin bruises that they have to come up with a regimen for healing? We're nuts! ![]() Osu!

you know...a friend of mine was a hockey player, and he has told me...that hockey players take up to like couple of week off entirely, from a 'Charlie Horse'. Us? we get one, we wrap it up, and we go to class next day...lol.
BTW, i have a MASSIVE Shin bruising...it hurts to even touch it! it sucks to high hell...i couldn't even spar last night....
