Do you belong to a certain organization? Most tournaments in the LA area are not open to other styles / organizations. Sensei Taku has Freshmen tournaments but you must be a member of Matsui-ha (IKO1).
If you want to do Kickboxing, there are several smokers in the LA area. I'm sure you can find info by doing a google search. |

Osu!
Unless you have someone to represent your interests, be very careful about entering events with unfamiliar people. I got caught with a real bait-and-switch once. The opponent was changed to a far more experienced (and bigger) individual; the rules were changed to match his style of fighting, and the result was just as you might expect. I lost by TKO in the second. It could have been much worse, because I was totally out of my game. (Fighting on a slick surface in a light rain didn't exactly help either. If a promoter isn't interested in the safety of the fighters, it's best to walk away.) Osu!
