How I have always known it to be done and follow it since is this...
Each student is their own island, the testing guide lines is a guide not the rule. The sensei [and the testing board members] should know each student personally and he/they make their decisions based on each person skills close to the testing guide lines be they kids, teens or adults |

Spirit, thanks for that post, I think it really captures the essence of a good teacher.
One who has a vested interest in the progress of their students, and is willing to measure their growth on its own merits! vapor

Osu!
I think Kyofighter's approach by using YouTube is a positive one. If your Dojo has a visible online presence, both through a website, and hosted videos, those people who enjoy what they see will be likely to visit. Osu!

I think that we need to realize, that the younger demographic will likely turn to the web first for their information gathering activities.
If you don't have a presence on the web, you might as well not exist---as there is more trust from this age group online, then there would, say looking in the phone book vapor

Osu!
I think its funny that when I started, there was no Karate in the phone book. (Ok, technically, our area didn't have a phonebook, and we still had a central switchboard and a three digit number, but you get the idea. )Now, there might as well not be any in the phone book, because even I check the net first. ![]() Osu!
