Update on Auchterarder Dojo (Scotland)

First week was pretty quiet with 5 x adults and 3 x juniors turning up. Second week was once again pretty quiet with 3 x adults and 3 x juniors, however tonight I am expecting 12-15 (with a bit of luck).

Dear kyokushinglen,
That is already quite good for a new dojo. Be patient and as the reputation spreads more students will come. As long as the students Kiai, no Kyokushin Dojo is quiet.

OSU!

Eight is Great! (and a couple of months of smaller class sizes while you get into your stride is not a bad thing..) Keep it up!

Glen,
Not to sound cold or anything, but I'll what till 1 year anivs to give my salutations.
I may be the one who is going to focus on bottom line and other matters than "hey good job"

Can I ask...???

What is your (student count) break even point?
How many paying students do you need to cover ALL your bills (not including money for you)

Do you have an advertising budget, and if so what is projected cost per student ratio?
Cost for each student that comes in do to that paid advertisement. say you spend $300.00 for an add and you project that 5 students will come in do to that ad. Each student just cost you $60.00

Do you have a new student package?
Example dues are (using U.S. dollars but I think you get the point) $30 a month, and you offer a new student package of 3 months and gi for $60.00

Are you able to do a after school program at the local schools?
If you can (or don't know, Ask) this is a great way to get word of mouth.
You can also offer the school the money you raise for the program back to the school for books, supplies etc.
this is a good way for the community to see you and Karate as a positive thing.

What is your market?
Who are you going after, middle income, children, teens, adults, set part of town etc.
Do you know the demographics of your area... Population, income, ratio of males, females, children, actives,
shopping habits all this stuff...

Are you suppling equipment to your students (gi's patches)
Do you have a dojo patch for your school, if no why not

The dojo name what is it?
The easier the name one can remember and pronounce the easier it is for them to talk to you ... Strange enough many people stay away from dojo that they can pronounce the name of.
I know we all like to use "Kyokushin" in the dojo name but if the people can't say it a high percentage will stay away from it just because of that, why hurt yourself do to it.

That is it for know more after you reply to these "?"

Well, last night (Monday) I had about 12 new junior students, 1 x new senior and 4 members from another Dojo I attend. Quite pleased with that. Would like to get more seniors along though.

Well done Glen, good numbers for rural Scotland!
Maybe you can put up a few posters locally? There's a 5 star hotel half mile up the road(Gleneagles), maybe they will oblige? Heehee.
