Kyokushin budokai
Hello everyone. I just read a book about a kyokushin fighter, who trained under sosai oyama. And then he startede his own style. The sensei is called Jon Bluming, and he is the kancho of the kyokushin budokai style, whice i have read is part kyokushin/kickboxing, part judo and part grappling. I wanted to know if there is anyone on this forum, traning that style. And how is it. He also claims that, he is the one who taught ashira karate to his student ashira.
OSU!!

Hi.
There are a few budokai guys here, but not many so far. Budokai is not a very large organization, and most kyokushin dojos split out from it a few years ago.
Also it split a years or so ago between one faction under Bluming and one faction under Gordeau.
Who is ashira? If it Ashihara (ive seen the name spelled wrong on occasion), then no, Bluming didnt have anything to do with him more than, at most, a very brief meeting.

Kyokushin budokai, mainly, is a style who mixed traditional kyokushin and judo-jujitsu techniques. In other words the fight continue also at the ground with strangulation, projection, ecc.
The founder of Kyokushin Budokai is Kaicho Jon Bluming (10th Dan Kyokushin, 9th Dan Judo, 4th Dan Bo jitsu, 4th Dan Iai Jitsu, 2nd Dan Kendo), a real still alive martial arts legend.
Kaicho Bluming was a Sosai Oyama's student also (and maybe more than Sosai Oyama) a Kenji Kurosaki too. In fact Kurosaki is actually the Honorary President of International Budo Kaikan (IBK), the Kaicho Bluming's Organization.
After the Sosai Oyama experiences he come back to Holland and found Kyokushin Budokai in 1980.
Ashihara style and his founder Hiseyuki Hashihara haven't nothing to do with him. The only thing is that Kaicho Bluming had trained K-1 Champion Semmy Schilt, who come from Ashihara style.
Today IBK is growning very well and many kyokushin dojos are affiliating with it. I've also known Kaicho Jon Bluming and he's a a charismatic man, also a pleasent and still a strong man. He has a very good reputation around the world.

Actually Semmy trains under Dave Jonkers, and has stated that he only has trained under Bluming at a few seminars.
Bluming is the head of the federation (IBK) which dave Jonkers ashihara organization is a part of (alongside with the kyokushin budo kai organization of Bluming), but Semmy has never been as student of him.

Semmy is a member of Dave Jonkers "Ashihara international". Ashihara international is a member of the umbrella organization IBK.
IBK was cooperating with Daido juku for a while, and Semmy was invited to fight as a guest fighter at few championships -which he won.
But Semmy has never trained Daido juku. While he has had a few short term trainers, his first one, the one who has stuck to him from the start and who currently is his coach in k-1, is Dave Jonkers, head of Ashihara international.
a couple of years ago, semmy switched from ashihara to seidokaikan for (lets be honest), k-1 political reasons. But Dave Jonkers is still his trainer and coach, despite Semmy "leaving" his organization.

Dear Martin H,
sorry for my english...there's some mistakes. I told that Schilt had trained with Buming, not his student.
Dave Jonkers at the IBK camps (in which one I've trained personally), wearing the Gi with the Kanji of Kyokushin Budokai while Schilt wearing the Gi with the kanji of Ashihara Karate.

OK, I knew I had seen Semmy fight in Daido Juku, and I just made that assumption.

I attended the IBK Summer camp in croatia in august where both Dave Jonkers and Semmy Schilt were present. You can see photos on the IBK website.

Just found this Azimuth - Shane has just opened a full time MMA gym in Dublin and that seems to be taking a lot of his time. He has also started to reproduce his articles in a Magazine here called Irish Fighter.

Hi Guys,
Cheers for looking into the blog. Shane/Bloke is quite right; setting up the gym/club has taken up HUGE amounts of my time. The articles did reproduce in Irish Fighter and there have been updates (new ones). I'll get them up on line at some point. To be honest; I didn't realise that anyone was reading them!
Incidentally, Leo won his debut MMA matchup this weekend. So, congrats to him!
I recently completed the 50-man kumite under Semmy too (at the camp mentioned above). Unfortunately, I'm not able to post the link yet otherwise you could have a look at the article.
I'm going to be focusing a little on establishing the Kyokushin side of the dojo soon enough; so I'm sure we'll be in touch with eachother again Bloke!
