You are talking about "The Surin" which is indeed a superb beach in Phuket.
But his new gym is in the region "Surin" where he's born, that's in South East Thailand in the land.

Thanks Tay - I should have known that a fighter of his quality would have come from the Isaan Area - not far from Ubon where Daniel was

Indeed, it's Surin province in Isaan.
My own Muay Thai instructor was from not-too-far-off Chaiyaphum.

Buakaw has confirmed his participation in the Thai Fight
Superstar of Muay Thai Sombat Banchamek, better known as Buakaw Por Pramuk, will take part in the tournament Thai Fight, which will be held April 17 in Pattaya.

This was Buakaw fighting on Thai Fight in April - Por Pramuk had told him not to fight or he would go to jail
He certainly takes out his frustration in this fight - I love the Thai Don King interviewing him in the end

Probably as soon as Mr. Por Pramuk gives up.

Could be his reason for being a Monk - I think there is some sort of tradition here where the police will not arrest people that are living in Temples as Monks (Kanku may be able to validate this) - I have read of cases where criminals have been discovered in hiding as monks in temples

Sad news for fight fans everywhere and even sadder for those in his weight class that will never get the opportunity to test themselves against the best there is and say to their kids and grand kids I fought Buakaw and survived :-(

I watched him fight Dzhabar Askerov at Yokkao Extreme 2012 in Milan.
Very sad to see him retiring.

A sad way for him to end his career - what a great fighter.

Sad to see him retire under any circumstances, but even sadder to see him retire due to his very greedy former gym. Their bad attitude of 'if we can't make money from him, then no-one will!' really puts a stain on the world of Muay Thai.
Very sad...!

I sincerely hope so, as it would be a great lost to the Muay Thai world if this is the last we have seen of him.

After a 7-hour meeting on 7/2, it is now decided that Buakaw will return to the ring.
The new deal
Buakaw/Gym
Fight purse in Thailand: 60%/40%
Overseas:75%/25%
(perhaps Dent's ongoing disappearance is a secret part of the deal, in exchange for the return of Buakaw )

Here is a really good recent documentary on the life of Buakaw. Although it is in the Thai language, it has English subtitles(CC). It is very interesting and shows a more human side of Buakaw, not only as a fighter. I wish him much peace and happiness. Just wanted to share it here. Osu!
