B.t.w. what type of Goju Ryu did you train in?

It was japanese, not Okinawan. We were the guys with the fist on our gis. As to organization, I am unsure. Of course, we were organized in the German Karate Association (DKV - Deutscher Karate Verband) just as everyone else, but which organizational ties bound us to Japan I cannot say. Nobody cared for that actually, it was simply Goju Ryu, and on the more grand scale, it was just Karate, that's how most of us saw it.
