nice Ksan, very nice, looks like the cover of a book I know he'd not do a tell all type book but he has such a story to tell of his own personal journey even up to leaving Japan for the UK it would be a remarkable read.

Osu,

That is a nice portrait. The painter did an excellent job. TMD -I once spent (around 1990-93) a few hours visiting him at home chatting about this and that and video recorded the conversation. Priceless ...

I found this interview of Hanshi Arneil on Kuwait TV, I'm not sure of the date but he was 9th dan then (videos below):

For those of you who can't watch youtube or don't want to go through all the translations in the video, I've written it down:

Presentator: My first question mister Steve, what's Kyokushin Karate?

Hanshi Arneil: Kyokushin Karate is an organisation and a martial art which was formed by my teacher Masutatsu Oyama in Japan. It is to do with fighting and self defense, and discipline of body and mind.

Presentator: What's Hanshi?

Hanshi Arneil: Hanshi is my title, it means I am a professor or teaching the martial art, it is a high level.

Presentator: Is it the biggest title?

Hanshi Arneil: In kyokushin, the highest is Kancho, but below Kancho you can get Hanshi or Shihan, they are both high titles, but I have taken the title of Hanshi as I have developed the international federation of karate kyokushin so my title is hanshi.

Presentator: Mister Steve, you mentioned mister Sosai Mas Oyama, we want to know about this guy more.

Hanshi Arneil: Mister Oyama or Sosai is Korean, he was born in South Korea, at the age of 4 he came to Japan, and there he studied in different martial arts. Then he made a decision to develop his own form of martial arts, and that was named Kyokushinkai. And he has developed it throughout the World. I am one of his followers, I would say a very close follower. (smiles)

Presentator: Mister Steve, have you been to Kuwait before?

Hanshi Arneil: Yes I have been to Kuwait several times. I think 4 times.

Presentator: Do you find any difference?

Hanshi Arneil: No, Kuwait is very nice and warm (smiles), and I like Kuwait very much, and I also enjoy teaching the students they are very enthusiastic to learn.

Presentator: What do you think of the future?

Hanshi Arneil: The future for IFk Kyokushinkai is very very good, today we train very hard, and to look at the new people starting it has a good future. I am very please to have students like I have here at the moment (in Kuwait). Their value is the same as anywhere in the world.

Presentator: You know 'osu'?

Hanshi Arneil: Yes I know 'osu' very well. (smiles)

Presentator: Can you tell the viewers please what's mean 'osu'?

Hanshi Arneil: 'Osu' is a word used by Kyokushin, which is very easy to understand, it means 'hello', it means 'goodbye', 'I understand', 'I have good spirit' and if you great me and I go 'osu' I say 'hello', if I fight I go 'osu' I'm gonna fight (smiles), so it has many meanings.

Presentator: ok, osu!

Hanshi Arneil: osu! (smiles)

Presentator: we don't fight (laugh)

Hanshi Arneil: no no we are only friends, osu!

Presentator: it's a Japanese word?

Hanshi Arneil: It's a Japanese word yes, if you translate it more deeper, then it has a number of meanings meanings, it means to keep fighting, to keep striving, to get better, it's a very handy word to use. I think if you get the book which my country representative has, he will give it to you, and you can read all about osu. But anywhere in the world you go 'osu' they will say 'osu' back.

Presentator: Mister Steve, any final words?

Hanshi Arneil: I am very honored, thank you for inviting me to your studio. I sincerely hope there will be many more people who find it interesting to learn more about Kyokushin and IFK, we have a good representative, he is a good instructor and I hope at the next world tournament we will have more fighters from Kuwait. I hope that in the future you will be able to show some of our dvd's of the world tournament for children and for adults. And I'm sure that all the people could enjoy.

Presentator: osu!

Hanshi Arneil: osu!
