Now five days have passed since the World Tournament (six including the day one) and nothing shows up on the Matsushima website.
Why not just close it down for good?

Or perhaps get a better PRO - methinks you would make a perfect person to do such work seeing that you are so clued up on what is happening. If none of the major organisations have tapped into your potential or even your own organisation, then they are missing out lots.

The prestige to this daunting and boring task I will leave it to others.

.. . for some it can be a prestigious title, but it does involve lots of work. Especially if one wants to do a good job!

Mas's report ...
The team departed on Wed the 20th June arriving Thur. An incident occurred with one of the team members who forgot her passport and tickets in the flight when we arrived at Narita Airport with the regulations and laws she had to be deported back to SA L. Unfortunately, we had to move on, though it was a sad moment…..
Fri morning woke up for an hour training session just to loosen up…….MY NERVES STARTED TO HIT IN!!
Had a bit of tour to get food and stuff we might require…. Should say, Isesaki City is a very nice and quiet city. Liked the atmosphere….
Evening it was a team talk that made me want to fly back home!! I PROMISE YOU!!! If SA was a drive away, I WOULDN’T HAVE MISSED THE BUS…EVEN TRAIN!!!
Sat – Sun
Woke up and had a 30mins warming up session with a last prep talk. After the talk and freshening up…I had breakfast like there was no tomorrow……
Went to the tournament venue and SA did their “spirit Cries” of singing and dancing. Australia pulled their stunts as well, the opposite side but SA …WE GOT IT BAD…regardless….. lo. (BETTER THAN IN SPAIN)……
Aussie, I still love you y’all…….
Tournament began:
MALES FIRST:
1. S – our first fighter who opened up for SA. He lost. He was fighting well though he got an opponent 10kg bigger.
2. E – he did good over an opponent 4kg little his weight. He pulled a stunt of 2 kicks and 2 punches at all times, all relaxed.
3. MD – He lost from an oi tsuki.
4. P - got be bye.
5. M – To be honest, he didn’t seem like he’d trained for this event.
6. SE – he won fight with a mawashi geri.
7. Sensei T – he’s 80kg and was with an opponent who’s weight was 96kg. He stuck on lower kicks and fast pace punches, they worked the trick, hence his opponent was also taller than him. He won the fight.
LADIES
8. Mas – my opponent. VERY FAST, had to pick up her pace because I felt that if I’d used my pace, I would have been dead. I stayed a lot on punches as to avoid her pace, ending with a combination of kicks in the last minute (bout was 2mins). I got the bout
9. N – she so was nervous that in the first minute her opponent got a wazari through chudan tsuki. She picked up the 2nd min which was too late by then with a few seconds to go.
10. Tam – ikiwaki on the first 2mins. And lost the second time round. She didn’t train hard this year. And to be honest, she’s a stronger fighter, got a position 2 in 2006 against Sensei Penita Davies and 2 in Japan 2008.
Second & third rounds
E – won his second opponent by playing it safe, thought his opponent gave him a run around the tatami, (his opponent was from Russia and he was stronger than E….seriously)….he lost in the top 16 over a heavy opponent, in weight.
P – his fighter was stronger in kicks. But knocked by a tsuki. Only to find out later that he’d (P) accidentally his opponents knee, lost his concentration coz of the pain and that’s when he got the punch. 10mins later, he was in bandages, his foot had actually felt the bump, it was swollen and bruised. Something had shifted…
ME – lost the fight because he became too relaxed.
Sensei T - only if he’d listened to not perform any high kicks, and stick on punches because his opponent was great in physique and pushed forward him all times. Only in the last seconds he added combinations of everything. Still lost though.
Mas – “the pace was perfect and so was the application of combination” said one of the coaches (Not from SA). I took it easy on this bout since have seen how her first bout was, observed with precautions. I honestly did feel that I was stronger than her because at some point the impacts were visible through her movements and facial expressions. In a minute to go, with an alert from my coach (Sensei T) pulled all out the new moves as I’ve been practicing and they worked. She backed out and touched her chin – pointing that I had punched her on the face.
Referee gives a chui ichi, chui ni and genten!!!!!
That shook the crowd, branch chiefs, even Hanshi Taylor and Kancho Matsushima advising referee to make a sounding ruling. *and while that’s being done, time goes off*
On the call for corner judges to rule,
3 shiros and 1 aka went up based on the decision made by the centre Ref.
I was the aka. AND THAT’S HOW I LOST….
My take:
1. With the blows I was applying, if I’d punched her on the chin – as she said – she would have either fallen or have a bruise;
2. The corner judge, whom the incident happened in front of him, would have judged it before she announced. Because the applications were clear.
3. Centre Ref would have notified me to “not do it again “and continued the fight;
After the fight, strolling back to our posts, I was complimented by other fighters and coaches, and the receiving “OSU” from those I passed by.
I CRIED!!
Walking through the passage way, For a few minutes I relieved that ache. The one you feel when you really didn’t do it yet you’re accused.
Breathed a deep breathe, smiled and walked back to the hall.
I am proud to have performed that good and know will do better next time. For now, it’s resting – mentally and physically…..
As for everything else, had fun all the way…. Until we left.
If I start telling you about all the other fun including the Sayonara, it’ll be 5 or more posts…..
*And I wouldn't mind*
And if anybody asks, i am the lady that was shouting the loudest in the hall.
And am THAT lady who ate the most......
Osu

AND THAT'S HOW I MADE IT TO TOP 8
(missed the part where I had a bye. Opponent disappeared )
.and am proud of myself to have been there. I was fit in all spheres of my body. And I pushed as much.
...................
AND NOW, ITS TIME TO TAKE A VACATION. TO RELAX,
MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY...
IT'S BEEN MONTHS AND MONTHS OF TRAINING AND PREPARATION

Osu,
Is it my imagination, but based on the pictures displayed, that there was not a lot of spectators? Is spectators dwindling at traditional karate events?

I am afraid this is more of an individual issue. Matsuishimaha is not able to pull in audience (fighters rather unknown).
Picture from the final of the last World Tournament of Matsuiha.
For a fair comparison, the picture (male) of Matsuishimaha was also taken from the final (the other picture I do not know).

Osu,
Thanks - just strange that Matsushima Ha could not get more support in their own "backyard" so to speak. But possibly shows that they are not that large in Japan in comparison to Matsui Ha or Shin Kyokushin.

Looking at the final it seems that there were a lot fewer people than the regional tournaments of the major organisations.
In Japan they are pretty tiny and localised. If it is a backyard it has to be some sort of secret garden.
And I think not all World Tournaments have to be held in Japan. If the leaders of Matsuishimaha can consider moving their World Tournaments to a country where they have a huge fan support, fighters will become more passionate when they hear the loud applause.
Or perhaps these groups can work together and produce larger events following the example of World Kumite Association.

I guess because they are a small group, their events are poorly attended.
The bigger the group, the bigger the support base.

You right, having that support does motivate fighters - an empty hall does not have the ingredients for pushing the spirit. I remember fighting in the US Sabaki Challenge - not having friends to support makes one feel lonely.

Stephen Covey speaks about "creating synergy" - possible the WKO is paving the way. Will you be attending the OSaka Taikai? Perhaps we can meet then. I intend going to Tokyo as well and intend training with Masuda Shihan. Also plan on hooking up with Vapor who just helped me get some more books.
Tried to PM you but not working as I needed some help from you again ...

I was at the Matsushima World CUp in Sydney in 06. The crowd was pretty decent from what I remember. Problem with this tournament is that Matsushima Org is small in Japan, if it was in Iran or Ukraine I can imagine it being packed to the rafters.

That I think makes a different - when you have a strong membership base, it is easier to pack in the numbers. Australia is well established under Hanshi Taylor and the AKKA is rather strong, so they can get their members to support one another. I guess the same in other countries and organisations.
