I kindly suggest that when you start a new thread, try to make the title more descriptive so that other people can easily spot what you are looking for before reading the thread. In that way you will get more quality responses.
Recommending this thread for you:
Injuries and swelling
http://www.kyokushin4life.com/forums...archid=2253178
There are many good advises by searching "injuries", not necessarily all about leg injuries but the general procedures to recovery apply.
If you start thinking using only legs you will be getting ideas about leg kick/leg training etc and bear in mind "injuries" is your main issue. The more thought you put in making a thread title before posting, the easier it is for you to find existing threads/get others to reply.

I eat Ibuprofen like Vitamin C. 600mg(3tabs) twice keeps the ache away when its really bad-which is often. Also theres a product called, "Calm." It's a Calcium/Mag combination that you mix with Hot/Cold H20. I do both on heavy sparring days. Im not cured but the ache is tolerable.

Kakatootoshi is right about using a precise thread name, and also about using the search function. This is definitely a topic thats been covered before.
With that said, I've found that bending /flexing / stretching my legs frequently seems to help them loosen up faster after getting them banged up at a tough sparring session.

Some clarity please - Ibuprofen as in like the anti-inflammatory? Eating that or are you referring to the Vitamin C which one can get as a chewable tab.? I generally take those for keeping the colds away ...

Yep, Ibuprofen is a anti-inflamatory. The vitamin C and E get it to carry more quicly the properties of Ibuprofen.
To get a better results of the treatment of pain, should start to aply ice's compresses in the second day.
Can this topic change to appropriate place ?

Osu AshiharaKaicho, I was just being sarcastic with the reference to "Eating" )
I take large doses of Vit C daily but I was making the coralation to the amount of Ibuprofen I take weekly.
No, I dont eat-but swallow the Ibuprofen.
But between Knockdown sparring and lifting-wts it seems that I'm ALWAYS aching somewhere.
Sorry for the ambiguity.

Ibuprofen is my saviour but can be a curse, it can cause headaches if taken too regularly which leads you to take more. A few years ago I had to go for a whole week without it to get 'clean' I was in a lot of pain for most of that week, it has made me more cautious about my med intake.
If the issue is painful bruising arnica will help reduce it quicker. Massaging the area, massaging the area to break up lactic acid build-up.
Best cure is prevention, there is no good reason to spar that hard all the time - maybe it was a special class but I am never too proud to ask sparing partners to lighten up once my legs start to go (never used to just used to go harder too) we all gotta work and we all gotta train nearly everyday so being battered that hard just in sparing is not productive for all but special sessions when your preparing for a tournament but by then you should be more conditioned to it too. Don't mean to sound preachy and i know its easier said than done, just know it has value.

Osu! Sore legs.
I like to spend time using the foam roller and apply pressure on my inner and outer
thighs to "knead out" the tightness from the nasty leg kicks. This makes stretching
easier and more enjoyable of course after a light jog to get warm.
I would advise one to do this as well after a Shodan test, where one's legs are so
knotted up after the 20 man kumite plus etc. that one can barely sitting down on the
toilet after one gets home to resume his normal everday activities. Also extra strength
tynenol and some jacuzzi sit downs would help too.

Warmth to increase circulation.. Ice to reduce swelling..
Also, you could try elevation to help the lymph fluid drain the waste away.
Massage can help sore muscles, but would aggravate injuries.

I agree with the above ! Compression also helps maybe at the end of the working day... when the legs start to heal and the soreness goes get some heat rub into them...
I still remember the days after my Shodan grading I had to walk up stairs backwards ! LOL good times !

Ibuprofen is not an innocuous drug; it can have dire side effects on the digestive tract (ulcers, hemorrhages), the liver, the kidneys, the heart, blood pressure, and may induce strokes.
Using it in large doses on a regular basis is certainly not recommended; especially if self medicated.
Vit C in large doses, albeit mostly a waste, does not have adverse effects that I know of.

Vitamin C can have some adverse effects, mainly at high doses: nausea, vomiting, headaches, stomach cramps, heartburn and diarrhoea. It can possibly cause kidney stones too!

Nice to see you again here Ros - your knowledge is always welcome
And I've experienced "vitamin c overdose" myself before. It just gave me diarrhea and stomach cramps as Ros mentioned.
