It is said that he has already passed away.
Can anyone from Canada confirm if this is true?

I have not heard this but it could be. He was a student of Shihan Pierre Cataford. I will ask him next time I see him. I think he hears news of him every now and then or used to.

It was not fun having to fight him at belt gradings. Very intimidating and his quads measured 30 inches circumfrence if I remember correctly. With all that weight he could kick jodan mawashi like a middle weight seemingly with little effort.

One correction i would like to suggest is that he lost to Kurosawa Hiroki in 5th world tournament and not akira masuda, atleast thats how it is in the video of the tournament

Yes, he never actually lost a fight. It went to weight decision and he of course was the heavier and lost on weight not in Kumite.

Osu!
A great and legendary champion in his own right. As great as he was, he would have
done that much better if he got his weight down to 250lbs. Who knows, maybe
he could have placed 2nd or 3rd place in the World tournament if not become a
champion. In K-1 with a good boxing coach and at 250lbs., I think he would have
won a few more matches as well.
I remember in the Shidokan Open in 1994 against Jean Lavedrine of France, he
was up 5-0 in a knockdown match and gassed out in the 3rd round due to poor
conditioning although he was very dominant in his performance. He succumbed to
a Jodan Hiza geri and was counted out.

googled up Jean Riviere and just found this thread so I made an account on this site, this will probably be my only post.
Jean Riviere is not dead. He's alive and well. He's currently the head of security at Gerard-Fillion High School in Longueuil, Quebec (about a 20 minute drive from Montreal).
That is all.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us SDBLNG, appreciated
If you changed your mind about posting, you could start with your very own thread in the intro sections of the forum.

Thank you for your information and I am happy to know that it is fake news.
For your reference you can find messages about his "death" in the following links (if you need to make further clarification):
