niceguy, They sure don't seem to see the value in keeping their hands up, do they? You get busted at our dojo for dropping your hands everytime you kick or move. What is the idea behind dropping their hands so much? (Not criticizing---just looking to learn here )

My read on this is that they were not trained as knockdown fighters. In the final kumite sequence, there are lots of kicks etc being exchanged, and it all looks impressive, but they fundamentally lack the distance and timing needed.

I recognise it because it is like looking at myself back then. (althought I must say I never wore eyeshadow and a gi simultaneously ). Fighting knockdown definitely changes they way you move and hit and these women look to me to be from well and truly before the era when women were allowed to fight knockdown.

It's an interesting video - the thing that struck me most was the soundtrack. The music is so totally different to what would play over the kyokushin men's videos at the time (which was always warrior type music - think Stallone-type movie music). The music on this one would not be out of place on a video of lots of cute but puzzlingly unusual puppies.

Thanks for the video!! Saiha (the kata they were doing at the beginning) looks very different from the way I learned it... not sure if it's because it's changed over the years, or of it's a Kyokushin/ Shinkyokushin difference, or what, but it was pretty interesting.

And how much do you love the fashions???!!!
