Monty's training journal

Well, I was umming and arrghing about starting this. After today's session I think I need to be logging this stuff so I can see how i'm improving.

Oh, and I apologise for any spelling mistakes in advance

I'll start with yesterday,

Wado training
Lots of people(Kids) who it was their first class of the new year so it was a VERY light class.

BASICS
Jun Tzuki, Gyakatzuki, Jun Tzuki No Tsukomi, Gyakatzuki No Tsukomi, Mae geri, Mawashi geri

Pad work (Hit what you see). Ended up spending a lot of time holding the pads for the kids

Combination
from Hidari Hamni Kamie, step off to the left and duck a Jodan Tzuki, duck/dodge under attackers arm step through and backfist to head, slide step Yoko geri, rotate into kiba dachi blocking chudan tzuki, step through Hiza geri, mawashi empi

Kata
Pinan Nidan (to the count and own timing)
Pinan Yondan(own timing), mucked it up right at the end

Today
Enshin training
Ros ponced of to work Left me to suffer alone!

Basics
50 x Chudan Tzuki
50 x Jodan Tzuki
10 x Seiken Ago Uchi, Uraken Sayu/Hizo/Mawashi Uchi, Shita Tzuki, Jodan Uke, Gedan barai, Chudan Soto Nagashi
40 x Mae Ke-age, Hiza geri, Kinteki geri, Mae geri, Mawashi geri(over a bench type thing to get me to lift my leg correctly), Kansetsu geri, Ushiro geri

Things started going a bit grey at this point so I may have missed some of the stuff we did out, I seem to remember doing Hiza geri twice but I'm not sure

Sanbon tzuki

block/punch combos

5 Mins of right leg mawashi geri/left leg spinning back hook kick(sorry don't know the correct terminology)? left leg mawashi geri/right leg spinning back hook kick over the top of your crouching partners head.

I have an issue with my left leg supporting, I was unable to do the spinning kick correctly(kept having to grab the leg with my hand for some reason), Gary came over and gave me some encouragment and advise and by the end I was doing them much better(I felt).

2 Mins of similar but doing 2 kicks(right/left) then partner does same then 2 kicks(left right) then partner does same. Trying to start the kickfrom the squat position rather than coming out of the squat then kicking.

Kata and stuff

Kata and excersises(depending on if you knew the kata or not). When I didn't know the kata I was doing slow squats or press ups or sit ups to the same count as the people doing the kata.

Thankfully got a chance to rest and recover(a bit) whilst two black belts did their kata

Tabata

Run, press ups, run, squat jumps, run, pike sit ups, run, burpees

We all had to do anopther set of run, Burpees because Gary wasn't happy with how we were doing them.

My legs were jelly by this point and was wabbling rather than running.

Walked into town(very slowly) and got my bus home.

Wado Training this afternoon as well!

Otsuka created an interesting style/blend which opens up an understanding of Shotokan kata and movement which in turn relates to Kyokushin. Interesting stuff.

Good effort today Monty

Not much room on a Saturday so I only want those who are going to push themselves, not wait for me to get them going. You did that.

Rik's there every week. He's got a small body but a very big heart so if you keep up with him you'll rapidly improve.

Gary

PS Always happy to give a bit extra for free! Just when you think it's over I like to chuck a bit more at you ... Someday you'll thank me. Today is not that day. (Tomorrow's not looking good either)

Now there is a question I really should know the answer to, unfortunately I'm not sure

We have WIKF on our GIs so, from what I've seen on the web we must be Wado Kokusai.

Bizarre Wado Class this afternoon. Normal running round in a big circle, sit ups, press ups(20 of each) followed by stretches.

Then everyone in lines and Simon put "Insomnia" by Faithless on the stereo and we were doing Jabs and reverse punches to the music

Went through most of the basics then it was break before Kata.

Pinan Nidan, Shodan, Sandan, Yondan & Godan (to the count and then own timing)

Kushanku to the count then I got to sit down whilst the higher grades did some of the higher katas.

Finished with 30 Mins of sparring type stuff, Free sparring then Sparring drills. Wrong way round IMO as I would have like to have been able to try to incorporate what we did in the drills in the free sparring whilst it was fresh in my head.

Worked up a sweat but no where near as much as at Enshin this morning.

Nice!

Wado and Enshin several times a week? I guess there's no fighting for the TV remote at your house. Would you even have the time?

Not had the pleasure of meeting him yet but, judging by Simons bad Impersonations of him, I'd have to agree

Kata course(wado) this afternoon, spent 2 hours mainly going thorough Pinan Godan.

Made it all the way through Godan several times and got the jump better using the method of someone trying to hit me with their belt! can't land it in the correct stance but it's getting their

Finish off with a bit of Oyo Gumite and Sambon Gumite.

Really enjoyed tonight's Enshin class, Was a bit worried after Gary's post about being a fast one.

Quick warm up

Only Kihon was kicks, whipped through them quickly. Felt that my Mawashi Geris were better than last week after the help I got with them at saturday's training

Jogging round stopping to do different excersises (and amounts thereof) depending upon which playing card Gary pulled from the pack.

Same Kicking drills as Saturday, 5 mins of round kick(right)/Spinning hook kick(left) then round kick(left)/Spinning hook kick(right) over the top of partners head(with them crounching obviously). 2 Mins of round kick/hook kick over the top of partners head faster and more powerful trying to start the kick from the squat position. Exhausting.

Alternating half step round kick to partners hand(held at head height).

Alternating Mae geri, Partner dodges back then responds with a kick of their own.

Hold partners hands and pull/push opposite hands as fast as possible for 1 Minute.

Kata against opponent with pads(second half of grade kata).

Normal Kata, excersises to the Kata count if you didn't know the kata that was being done. Seems that learning Blue belt kata has pushed some of white belt kata out of my brain

Finished with a team Burpee off, 30 seconds each person in the team. Ros and my team won by 1 burpee

Ros and I were joking this morning on the way into work that we need to design an new set of cards and substitute them for Gary's pack.

No cards higher than a 5 and instead Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs and Spades well have different suits that represnt nicer excersizes....

2 of "Hand Claps", 5 of "Cups o' Tea", 4 of "Nice comfy chair infront of the fire" and my favourite Ace of "Let's go down the pub"

But, hey, we ain't gonna get in shape doing stuff like that are we
