Hi Fred,
Yes, that one was done a while ago - the overally spelling and image of the WKO is improving constantly. On one of the older posts here, it was mentioned about the nasty pop ups on the WKO site - that has been sorted out and possibly after this championships - the site will be moved to another server (A-Online).

Osu,
Yes and it's related offshoots like Seiwakai (Ademir da Costa), Riyu Jits (Walid Hassan Meri - former Kyokushin/Shidokan), Kenshikai (William Oliver's group - ex Seido Juku) and others like Byakuren Kaikan. Quite a number of the IKO groups are represented by its various Iranian affiliates.
The previous tournament was rather well organised with good interaction between the groups.

without going into politics or to offend someone, it is confusing with shinkyokushin WKO.. so should we call World Kumite Org. WKO2?

Osu, this is a point - however, rarely does one see Shinkyokushin only using WKO - it's normally Shinkyokushin WKO. However, I will raise it at the meeting in Thailand, but you must remember that the WKO has no allegiance to any style or grouping as in the case of Kyokushin. It is a multi style organisation.
Just as a matter of interest - the World Karate Federation (WKF), the official governing body for sport karate as recognised by the IOC is known as the WKF. Yet, there is another body called the World Kobudo Federation also making use of the WKF. Strange but true.

Osu Ashiharakaicho,
Thanks, for me this is not a problem but people could get confused. As there are quite a number of MA organisations, I think it is inevitable to have organizations with the same acronym.
I think that the essence of WKO (kumite) is a good cause. Beside the offshoots do you know which Kyokushin organizations are participating if any?

You welcome. You are right - and as time goes along, it will become even more difficult with more splinter groups being formed.

Actually what I enjoyed was that all the Masters had to do a demonstration of their system at the WKO Honbu after the previous event. Sadly this year, there will be no time as the event is run on one day as to the two day event previously.
At the 2008 event, most of the IKO groups was represented - mostly by a unified Iranian team comprising the various factions. That was rather good seeing that and it is a pity that it cannot be imitated elsewhere. Even the group chiefs interacted well.
For this year's event I cannot say who will be there, but I will certainly post about it.

Actually he fought at the 2008 WKO my mistake, but I do see him on the poster for the 2010 event so maybe he did fight on it, just looking through the videos now.

Great news! Thank you. He is one of my biggest inspirations in Muay Thai and because of him I found knockdown. Osu!

You welcome. He is a very down to earth person and just plain nice other than being tough. I had loaded a photo with him in one of the threads, but find it below once again ..
In the picture is L-R: Sunit Gupta (Ashihara USA), Myself, Mongkon, Abubakr Petersen (IKO Sosai - also a not so active K4L member)

Great picture, you are very lucky to have met him. I have followed his MT career for a long time. His battles with Ramon Dekkers, Jongsanan, Johmod, Dany Bill etc the man is just a phenomenal fighter. I would love to see more footage of him in knockdown as i'm sure my striking will looking similar to his as I am a traditional MT style fighter transitioning into Knockdown/Kyokushin after 6 years of Thai Boxing and am curious how a blended style will work so Monkong is the perfect fighter to watch for me. If you have any links to footage of him at the Kyokushin Union or anything I would appreciate it.
Osu!

Thanks, check out all the fights on the site - I will drop a mail to the webmaster to see whether he can name the clips. There should be at least 4 of his fights on. Check too whether any of the 2008 clips are on the WKO site as he fought there too.
Don't know about the Union clips, but check on You Tube.
Then regarding the WKO - recently many Japanese dojo's and groups joined the ranks of the WKO Japan under the leadership of Kancho Sugihara (Byakuren). Some of the new members include Hamai Shihan and others so the WKO seems to be establishing itself well in Japan.

You welcome and thanks for the interest. If I am not mistaken, Mongkon does some teaching for Sifu McInnes at the WKO Honbu in Pattaya.
The WKO has brought a refreshing change to organisational politics where many of the different styles and groups can actually interact and compete with one another with no issues. It has attracted many senior and high ranking instructors from all over to give their support and has been growing all the time.
