Post Embarking a New Journey to the Karate World

Hello I'm Kai you probably don't know me yet cause I'm new here and also in Karate I was inspired to write a journal from reading the Senpais progress and thought it wouldn't hurt to write one myself. I hope I can contribute some of help in the future.

This morning me and my Old man jogged 5kms in 30 mins its tiring cause I'm not used to jogging. After we jog he starts explaining the Nage Waza (I don't know if I heard it right cause I'm not listening well) and He said Its applicable in Karate. Would someone please point out if it really is needed in Kyokushin? cause I'm skeptical because I think hes just using some flowering words to lure me in Judo.

I can't practice in the Dojo for this summer cause I have a summer class
(in biochem and physics ) but my Sensei gave me a list to practice:

Dachi: Yoi Dachi, Fudo Dachi, Heiko Dachi, Zenkutsu Dachi, Kumite Dachi, Moro Ashi Dachi
Te Waza: Oi Tsuki (C,J,G), Gyaku Tsuki (C,J,G), Ago Uchi
Uke Waza: Jodan Uke, Soto Uke, Gedan Barai, Gedan Uke, Gedan Juji Uke
Geri Waza: Mae Keage, Mae Hiza Geri, Hiza Ganmen Geri, Mae Geri (C,J)
Kata: Taikyoku Sono Ichi

I broke it down cause I know my physiology can't memorize it in few months

A.M.
So this day I only practice the Dachis and do some 50 push ups and 150 sit ups.

P.M.
My goals for this night:
100 Oi Tsuki, 100 Gyaku Tsuki and 100 Ago Uchi
50 Jodan Uke, 50 Soto Uke, 50 Gedan Barai, 50 Gedan Uke, 50 Gedan Juji Uke
200 Mae Geri for both left and right

and maybe not to do the Kata yet cause my body is not used to the forms yet I hope I can accomplish this goals for tonight.

Guys If you're confused or can't understand some words in these Post feel free to ask me. English is not my Native Language so please forgive me
-Kai

Osu!

If my Dad was battering me like a piece of white fish, I'd be learning from him. Hang on, my Dad still has fast hands, and is still teaching me forty years on.

Yes, Nage Waza are important.

You can spend your entire karate life not knowing a lick of judo and be content, adept at defending yourself, fulfilled. Karate without Judo is like black and white photography, and can be quite wonderful. Judo adds a bit of realism, like color. It is not everything, but it makes something good, even better. Ask your dad to teach you kouchi gari and ouchi gari and you will understand the significance of kake ashi dachi and sanchin dachi.

Day One's goals are accomplished but I over stretched my muscles and its now soring...

Day 2

A.M.
I practice the Dachis and do some 50 push ups and 150 sit ups same as day one but I didn't jog due to time deprivation.

P.M.
still the same as day one but I didn't exaggerate it.

Welcome! And well done to you for posting in a language that is not your first preference! I know I couldn't do it!

(and I second the advice that judo enriches your karate - after my shodan, I didn't feel anywhere near "rounded" - so off to judo school I went. A lot of people in my nidan grading hit the ground from a footsweep )

Osu!

First of all, welcome to K4L, and congratulations on starting your workout log. I'd like to encourage you to enter your workouts every time, even if they are repeating. Part of the benefit of a training log is that it keeps you honest - if you hold yourself to posting every day, you'll be more likely to hold yourself accountable for the training

To spice it up a little you might consider logging times, distances, how you felt before and after, any issues you came across, and any other method of monitoring progress.

Good luck and happy training

Osu!

I'll still stick to the night goals but I'll double the number of the Tsukis I think adding gradually is better than to force my self to it limit

It feels like I'm gradually improving 50 dumb bells before makes my arms ache in the morning but now its used to it and I think I should also give the credits to Kihon I practice them in sequence form > Speed > Power

Practicing Basics Really Helps
when sensei taught me My first Kata (taikyoku Sono Ichi)
it feels like I'm just doing my Kihon but in combination
My friends were shock that I can do it well compared to them (I was complemented and I was like )

I know my goal is a Mile Stones away but taking a step at a time won't hurt..

I'm applying your concept bout the conditioning and it really helps me A LOT!
Thanks for that Sandman

I only have 30-60 mins break before and after studying. Maybe I shouldn't use it on surfing and just use it for practice instead...

anyways thanks for the thought senpai!
