Actually the yellow belt that Sensei Gary fought was from my old club. He had only been training karate for 6 months at that stage....and that was his first ever tournament!

The match went into 2 extensions.

Amazing when I look back at that tape and think how well he did

I would have thought that it was more impressive his skills against an experienced international fighter in his first ever knock-down match, rather than his grade, but each to his own...

But Gary wasn't an experienced international fighter then - he was a young up and comer only a green belt himself and probabley only about 18 or so
