Looking for a KD dojo in Charleston, South Carolina area

I will be there for 45 days for classroom type training and would like to attend if one is available. Does anyone know or have contacts I could talk to prior to my arrival to set something up?

Mods, I forgot that there was a "Finding A Dojo' thread. Could you move this over to that section please? Thanks!

Thanks. I came across a World Oyama Karate school there

Summerville Dojo
1731B North Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483
Tel: 843-873-5574
e-mail: Sensei Michael Vasquez
Web Site: http://oyamacharleston.com/

Not sure if it is still open but I will call tomorrow and e-mail. Other research has shown a great number of MMA spots with little trickles of Aikido, TKD, Hapkido, and Chinese arts. Will see when I get there unless others turn up new info.

I believe that Sensei Michael still teaches in South Carolina. I saw him last week at a World Oyama tournament in Alabama.

That is the same link from above but it would not open for me. It displays a connection problem. So I have sent an e-mail hoping to get a response sometime soon. Thanks Yoshukai!

Hangtime and I are just north of Atlanta - pm me your email address and we can work to get a date / location. Yoshukai is in Oxford AL and has been known to make his way to us for some training too

EDIT:
Oops! Yoshukai beat me too it!

Well, the Summerville dojo is a bust. It has been closed for a year or two according to the realtor I called since the door had a 'Lease' on it. Looking around for something reputable was fun in itself. I have narrowed it down to these two:

http://www.suenaka.com/

http://www.charlestonkravmaga.com/AKS_KM.html (Offers BJJ also)

There was a Goju Ryu spot here which is based off Peter Urban who highly recommend you wear a white headband but teach for passion - http://charlestongoju.com/?page_id=39

Osu!

It's not looking good for you MixMasta01. I hear the North East is the place to go.

When I can swing the income to live there; trust me, I will return and seek you out! We've spent most of our time in Maryland before I joined the military and got to know Jersey fairly well when I was stationed at McGuire AFB. Only time will tell.

Osu,

I'd stay in Oklahoma 20 lifetimes before even considering New Jersey!

Yep! It will be hard to leave such a quiet, low income area. The income would have to be extremely good for me to move back. Did you see the Goju dojo link who require you to wear a headband? So '70s/'80s!

Lol, yeah I know. That just means I'll have to make the drive to Jersey every once in a while to train with you guys. More economical than actual relocation. You are my closest bet to continuing my IOGKF training!

Well, you should come just because we're such sweet people, but failing that.......

Closest IOGKF Dojo to you is Mid America Traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do in Poteau. Run by two Godan, although I think Sensei Dennis will be testing for Rokudan on Okinawa this July.

No website, but: http://www.iogkf-usa.com/pg/groups/3...ional-gojuryu/

Still five hours away, but that's better than 26......

You know I tried to open the dojo locator for IOGKF some years ago and they password protected it and I could not look around. Before that it was open. Figured it was still restricted. I was wondering why you mentioned Poteau...had no idea where that was! Agreed, much better drive. Thanks!
