I don't run with them, but I love barbell and kettlebell exercises with them.

Have you tried them before? I have thought about it, but always thought they look a tad uncomfortable.
Let me know if you try them hw they feel.

I prefer to run my laps barefoot. I find that I run differently when I'm wearing any footwear. I tried running outside with Clogs on just to see how that felt.. it wasn't bad.
Most of my indoor running is in a gym ( running laps around the outside layer as close to the wall as possible). I try to run 10 laps one direction, and then switch and go 10 laps the other directions over and over until I've finished my 3 miles. It does get monotonous. I find my thoughts going into a meditation mode, and I forget to keep track of how much I've run.
When I run outside barefoot I try to keep to the grass as much as possible in an area that I know is constantly well-groomed. So far I've managed to avoid stepping in dog leftovers, sharp things, or slimy things. I'm surprised that my feet do not get very dirty. I really expected them to look black or green.. nope, that didn't happen.

Important note: If at all possible it is best to try them on in person rather than measuring and purchasing online. I say this because although the measurements may be correct, some wearers like a tighter fit for running and a looser fit for casual wear.
I would recommend KSO for the first time user because it is the most versatile style of the Vibram line.
I do recall a thread or a momentarily derailed thread about barefoot running. It was in regards to a video posted about running.

I really enjoyed my pair until my son stole them! He liked them as well! Since he has now outgrown them, I suppose they are mine again. :-)

REI is clearing out the 2011 KSO's, but nothing spectacular at $49.93.

I would second the trying them out in person. My wife picked up a pair, and after wearing them around a bit, decided that the shoes length for the toes (especially the shorter two toes) and her actual toe shape/length were not meshing that well...

I own a pair of Merrell Barefoot Runners. I think they are amazing. competed in a 12 hour 60+ mile adventure race in them and didn't have any problems.
Of course after 60+ miles, I couldn't really feel my legs anyway.

Wow! That's awesome - what was the race? Do you do that kind of thing often? I can't imagine 12 hours of running - blech!!!

Congrats on your adventure run; would you care to tell us more about it?
I looked up the Merrell Barefoot Runners... what's so special about them, they look like normal shoes with a flat sole that has a fancy colorful drawing of toes on it? what is the deal here?

For all the fans of the Vibram 5 fingers, do you have a collection of 5 toed socks? Is sweating and blistering an issue? What about smell?

And what did you do to overcome or work around the fasciitis issue? At times I had plantar issues which pulled the adductor magnus - don't ask how that happened, but it did. I also supinate, have flat feet and with having bandy legs all add to greater stress on the ankle joint. Also, when I was much younger, a vehicle drove over my one foot "flattening" it a bit.
For years, the podiatrist and others made me custom made insoles and others. It was only years later whilst doing a five day hike with someone who was making Prosthetics & Orthotics for a hospital that he checked how I was walking and came to the rescue. He made me custom made orthotics which is like a half shoe and I can wear it inside the shoe. Ihad to buy bigger shoes to fit that inside but it helped. It was more my ankles that needed support than my feet and since then, I started to wear ankle length shoes. My favourite is an old pair of half boots that I've resoled at least thrice - looks terrible as I never polish it, but it works magic.
My chiropractor has also suggested getting a wobble board to further strengthen the muscles of the foot and ankles and I do that for about 1-2 minutes daily just flexing on the board and trying to maintain my balance.
I love my Nike Free's and generally run between 1-2.5km nearly daily. I switch them with the New Balance version. The Nike is a softer run that the New Balance one. When I run with my normal running shoes then it feels so much heavier and it seems like I struggle to run the same distance.
I'm sold on these type of shoes and have had no problem with them. They also give my feet muscles a work out so that is the added benefit to it simulating being barefoot.

Running - hate it. Always will. I´ve had to run alot in my days just because of football practice and ofc cardio training for knockdown but ill tell you I never enjoyed it.. Even the short runs like 5km to me is just to boring for my mind.. Its not hard on my legs or even my cardio just plain BORING!!
For my mind to cope with running 5km 2-3 days a week on mornings i had to find a nice 3,5 + 1,5km field that gave me 3 massive hills to climb. Each of those made me in my mind split the 5km down into 3 pieces. If i where to just run straight for 5-10km i would rather kill my self out of sheer boredom...
