New chief coach for Ashihara Denmark
The chief coach for the Danish Ashihara Organization (DAO) national team, Sensei Allan Madsen (née Petersen), has chosen to retire from his position, and leave the responsibility to assistant coach, Sensei Jesper Sørensen (39).
The national team is a rather new thing, having been started by Sensei Allan in fall of 2008. Before this, the Danish fighters have been practising together before big tournaments, but it is not until now, that it has become an official institution with regular training camps etc.
Sensei Jesper is one of the most experienced fighters in DAO and NIKO Ashihara-kaikan, having recently become world champion for the fourth time, and is also on the technical committee of DAO. He trains and teaches in Randers Karate School.
The DAO and the fighters thank Sensei Allan for all his great commitment and dedication during his three years at the helm, and is delighted that Sensei Jesper is willing to continue the work as chief national coach.

Nice to see these things happening naturally.

Osu,
Interesting that he is called "coach", and not teacher, or instructor...

Nice jab, but in this case it makes perfect sense using your definitions:

This is not a regular class, it is the team of elite fighters from all of Denmark *. His job is not only to pick who gets to the honour of being a part of the team, and follow up on their individual training plan, but also to be their guide on the mat for tactical advice and motivational buildup. Truth, he is also in charge of training when the national team is gathered (unless he chooses to delegate that to someone else, something I find highly unlikely), but most of the leg work is done in the fighters home dojo.
* although, the national team is identical to his regular class, only weakened here and there by fighters from other karate schools — I kid, I kid.

Yes, sorry it came out as a jab, it was not intended.
This is precisely what I meant

In Japan they use the same word "coach"(コーチ) for the national team also. But above coaches they have "director"(監督), and "vice-director"(副監督).

DAO only has to take care of all the boring stuff, such as funding etc. DAO is of course in turn a suborganization under NIKO Ashihara-kaikan.
Keep in mind I'm just a lowly brown belt, and have no idea about what goes on at all the secret meetings. What I can say, is that the change has been entirely undramatic. It is my understanding that the team and DAO have been pleased with the work of the former chief coach, Sensei Allan, and I know they have full faith in the successor, Sensei Jesper.

What would be the most appropriate?
shihainin
juuyaku
shunin
My meishi states that I am the Director. However, whenever I've seen Kanazawa Hirokazu Kancho (Kokusai Shotokan Karate-Do), he calls me Shacho and I've never used the term President because that to me indicates a voted for position.
Is there any difference between "vice" and "assistant" w.r.t. " fuku"
Thanks in advance

Juuyaku 重役 means "the important executives" of a comapny. You can describe a person as a 重役 but it is not the name of a position.
Shunin 主任 is a kind of senior staff.
Shihainin 支配人 for instance can be the manager of a book store, a restaurant. 支配人 is the legal representative of the company at places where they have the 支配人 system.
First of all you have to understand that for the same Japanese word, it can be translated in different ways in English and the same applies for an English word to be translated into Japanese. There is no 1-to-1 translation. 監督 (Kantoku) can be a movie director (most usually), a sports manager or a foreman at a construction site. The misunderstanding comes from the association of this word with "Director" indefinitely.
社長 (shacho)is generally the highest person in change of a company so Kanazawa Kancho is referring to your role in a comapny but not the Dojo. 社長can be CEO, President or managing director. The Japanese word has nothing to do with being voted or not.
"Vice" is 副(fuku) and vice president of a company will be 副社長(fukushacho).
"Assistant" can be "助手", "補助者", "補佐", and vice director (of a movie) will be 助監督 (jokantoku).
Now back to the discussion of the Ashiharakaikan Team in Denmark.

Thank you - I was always thinking President in the western context of being voted in. A private joke we normally laugh about is we would ask one another "mo kari makka?"

It's not in the schedule I received, but that is all I know. To be brutally honest, I doubt your tournament is being considered. With such a small organization such as our, no sponsors or sugar daddy, there is a limited funding, and the team needs to put all their focus on a selected few tournaments — the larger and more prestigious tournaments are probably more attractive.
But then again, what do I know. I shall be happy to relay an invite.

Totally understand that philosophy NIX Please do pass on the invite, I think without fear of contradiction I can safely say our tournament is becoming a prestigious if not big one and there will be fighters from all over Europe and the UK, what I can say is out of season the Hotel prices are at least quite cheap and plentiful.
Hijack ended
