Shinkyokushinkai Japan welcomes all Kyokushin fractions to fight!
Rough translation:
Shinkyokushinkai welcomes all Kyokushin fractions to join their "Dream Cup 2012 International Tournament".
The deadline of application is 6/1 but for other Kyokushin fractions, this has been extended to 6/15. This is one step to bring unity to Karate and also to promote Karate as an Olympic sport.
In the future, same thing will be done for All-Japan and All-Japan Weight.
Midori Kenji

Sorry I am not that overwhelmed.
I know it sounds rude but I have been hearing similar "we are open/let us get together" calls in Japan for a long time. In my observation no big Kyokushin organisations will be interested in sending their fighters to "grace" the Dream Cup.
If Shinkyokushinkai Japan is being honest in their attempt, they should send their best Japanese fighters to other tournaments, to run the risk of having their best fighters beaten by people from other fractions, then that is something really interesting!

Its good that Shinkyokushin is letting other factions in the tournament..hopefully the other factions' kanchos will let their students fight.
Hope fully the tournament doesn't escalate into a full on war between factions..or maybe thats exactly what we need, a big tourney to let off some steam

I salute Kancho Midori's initiative, but I agree with KakkatoOtoshi!
An interesting case of game theory: If you do it, I do it, etc...
What is needed is a starting point; a place of trust where everyone can be at a level of comfort to lay down their guard, and get things started!
At some moment, someone will need to put himself at risk to untie the situation.

This is a major boost to those that support the worldwide friendship initiative,
we now have three regular tournaments that have opened up to everybodys novices allowing fighters to be "brought on" at convenient times when the fighters are ready, not just once a year as in the past.
Childrens tournaments are opening and the feeling in the u.k is upbeat.
This sort of thing has to start somewhere, we are fortunate to have forward thinking people in the u.k, there is talk of inter club tournaments, "b" category tournaments and jointly run tournaments, yes talk at the moment but progress.
Is this "spring" for Kyokushin karate....is the ice melting worldwide? And dare i say, the Kyokushin World Union might play a big part in this?

What happens next year in All-Japan/All-Japan Weight will be important.
This "Dream Cup", no disrespect but it is just another "women, senior and kids, usually admission free" (less prominence) event in Japan and there is nothing to lose for Shinkyokushinkai Japan in making this welcome gesture. Putting the reputation of their Japanese elite male fighters on the line is the only way to show their sincerity.

Agreed. However, one must applaude the beginning of the process aswell as the end.

While I hear and agree with all the plus and negative points of the 'unity' idea. We all see this a good positive step in the right direction.

As the matter of fact, as you said above, is a great initiative. A big step to start to install the Kyokushin friendship again among the all organisations with that called "big".
Congratulations, shihan Midori Kenji.

A pity that it cannot rub off onto other countries - but small steps contributes to bigger things so let us hope it is indeed so.

I really hope that the different factions take advantage of this opportunity to respectfully engage in this tournament, if it gets truly large and successful it really might help unite the Kyokushinkai. I know that this seems a bit naive and idealistic, but can you imagine the amount of positive drive and human force that could be gathered for the benefit of Kyokushin/Knockdown Karate if these group decided enough was enough and came to work together?
They could exponentially raise it's awareness and popularity without diminishing it at all, because each organization strives to be the best and has very high standards, and deep down seems to really want the best for Kyokushin. It could be a truly wonderful thing.

For Matsuiha to send their fighters to Shinkyokushinkai All-Japan/All-Japan Weight is impossible, wishful thinking.
Since Rengokai is a direct breakaway from the then Midoriha, the chance is also slim.
That leaves it to Kyokushinkan and some other smaller Kyokushin groups.

It seems that KyokushinKan is always busy with other groups in establishing a working relationship, but like you and others have pointed out - if the Matsui and Midori groups will start the process, then things might change drastically, if not ...

After the end of the two 7th World Tournaments Sanpeiha issued a challenge to Matsuiha for the two champions to fight each other, but Matsuiha did not take the challenge.
When the reputation of the best fighters are put on the line, it is always a difficult decision. Not only the fighters are bearing a lot of pressure, but changes within the organisation which may happen after such decisive fights have also to be considered.

The larger organizations always have more to lose in these cases than small organizations.

The further Shinkyokushin's spirit of unity, Midiori Shihan announced on his facebook message that a non-shinkyokushinkai fighter will be in the Japan team at the Shinkyokushin World Cup in Lithuania.
My guess is that it's the guy from Byakuren, who beat his son in the lightweight final.
But again another small positive step in unifying Knockdown karate, and going back to the spirit of truly open tournaments.

Sorry for raining on everyone's parade again.
If anyone thinks that this (a non-Kyokushin fighter in World Cup Team) is a new step, it is not. It happened first in the second World Cup in 2001, and that was not the only example. In that year the Japanese lost all champion titles but one (lightweight), and that guy was not Kyokushin. Tsukamoto Norichika Shihan could not fight to defend his title because he was caught smoking pot the year before (he was originally a World Cup Team member that time).
And for Matsuiha there also have been non-Kyokushin fighters in World Tournament Teams before.
