THE 4th I.K.O.MATSUSHIMA WORLD OPEN KYOKUSHIN KARATE TOURNAMENT
THE 4th I.K.O.MATSUSHIMA WORLD OPEN WOMEN WEIGHT KYOKUSHIN KARATE TOURNAMENT will be held in Isesaki city, Gumma prefecture in Japan.
The tournament is scheduled to be held on 23rd & 24th June 2012 on behalf of I.K.O.MATSUSHIMA International Karate Organization Kyokushinkaikan. They will also have the International meeting, the training class and Dan grading test.
But the very best is that our own Mas will be competing. Anyone in Japan able to meander to the event is sure to meet up with her. She will also be departing before the rest of her team members and will have about a day in Tokyo before she must catch her flight back.
Anyone able to meet her for coffee - please advise. She will be leaving South Africa on Wednesday to arrive in Tokyo (Narita) on Thursday afternoon.

Apologies - I knew about it a few weeks ago and was waiting for Mas to post - but she has been busy raising funds and it was only when we booked her ticket that things started to come together.
Pity too she is living so far away as I would have liked to see her preparations and possibly assist with that too.

Just heard from Mas that ...
this is to inform you that i have arrived and have been trying to get internet, only now that was able to connect.
i am staying at a hotel in Isesaki
currently not sure what our schedule for the day is but will find out as we had probelms with accommodation. thus changing plans, nevertheless all is well at the moment.

Anyone hard any news ? I read on a Russian site Arthur Tilov from Russia won, Karshigiev third and Ibragimov fourth plust four Iraninans in the top eight ?
All unconfirmed though.

Osu, a couple of silver and a bronze for the Aussie girls, not too sure bout the boys. I know a couple of the boys lost 1st round with some interesting decisions.

AK to the rescue ... Mas arrived home safely yesterday and wrote the following to me ... (Just called her to confirm that I could post it)
Left for the tournament at 8am and it began at 10am. It was amazing, I was dead nervous, didn't even bother to look at the fighters mag the night before when we had a pep-talk as a team. Didn't want to know.
Lucky fought well, lost on the second round, for him I can understand.....he never gets enough conditioning for his size and weight in the dojo, not enough opponents his size. But he was good.
I lost in the top 8. But the decision made by the centre ref raised a lot of eyebrows almost everyone, in such a way he shouted a gentei ....for a mistake made by my opponent. I was giving her hard blows on d chest and stomach that she ended sayin I'd punched her on the chin. Which was strange because the punches were so hard and if I had punched her on the chin as she said, she would either have bled or wud have fallen. Or had a scar......
Most of the SA guys did well, I was the only one who made it up to there and am proud of me.
The most spectacular fighter was an 18yr old from Iran, very light in body weight, but did wonders over his opponents. He was a good fighter.
Couldn't meet any of the ladies you referred me too. To be honest, I got tongue tied every time I came close. And for a first time, that happened to me...
Well, I had trained hard this time and even Hanshi Taylor commented on it. So wil be training harder for the upcoming events.

I think Mas is referring the fighter who came second in the tournament.

When I chatted to her earlier this afternoon - she said she was sorry that she could not meet Vapor in Tokyo as she had to rush back to catch her flight to get back to work.
She then asked if any other K4L member was present?

If things go well and as planned, Mas should be coming with us to Japan for the WKO event in October. That will be Osaka though - I intend visiting Tokyo. Not sure about the rest of the team and its budget.
