I was going to start a thread asking for peoples recommendations for kyokushin books, but looks like you already gave me a good list! I have essential karate, it's great, I used all the fitness exercises listed in the book to get back in shape for martial arts.
The only problem is a lot of these books seem like they are hard to find.

The Budo Karate of Mas Oyama by Shihan Quinn should be in this list as well. It is one of the best Kyokushin books out there.

This is a hot list of who thinks what is important to read etc.
The way I look at it, read everything and then read it again. I could list 50 other books that need to be on this list before thinking then remember 50 more.
The only thing one can say is don't limit yourself to Kyokushin only be open minded when reading.
Most Karate book are redundant, just like how each person thinks about Karate and what is or is not important.
Philosophy:
#1 book "the book of five rings"
Hagakure
The code of the warrior
bubishi
the sword & the mind
Tao te ching
Sun Tzu's
classic budo & bujitsu
just to throw out a few.......
Like all learning, one needs the empty cup philosophy.

Hagakure, Gorin No Sho, The Book Of Changes and The Art Of War are classics for anyone who's interested in martial arts or even not.
I haven't read the Tao of Jeet Kune-Do by Bruce Lee, but i guess it might be interesting as well.

KSan,
Question: Are those books authored by Ashihara, Ninomiya, and Royama translated into English?

The Ashihara and Ninomiya books were translated into english
The Ashihara one's are no longer printed . You can find copy's from time to time via E-bay but ridiculous expensive .
The Ninomiya one's are still available via the Enshin homepage .

A new book about Ashihara Hideyuki produced by his son were out in the bookstore a few months ago (in Japan). The book talks about early students of Sosai such as Royama Hatsuo, Goda Yuzo, Kato Shigeo (who taught Matsui of kyokushin and Masato of kickboxing) and many others. The book also comes with a DVD. It includes some rare footages of Ashihara and his son is also explaining in details the meaning of sabaki.

Many thanks for that. Would you recommend the book? Is it in Japanese?

Dear Bloke,
I've not had a chance to read the book. From the reviews and introductions that I've read it's a nice reading for those who want to find out more about Ashihara and his early students (it's not a textbook about techniques).
Yes it's in Japanese only.
