running past a black belt?

osu!
after every lesson i write down as much as i can remember.
well today when looking back i had written down that you shouldn't overpass a black belt when running at the start of class.
there is this one black belt in my class who's not very fit and everyone overtakes him while running.
so is it true that i shouldn't overtake a black belt when running or not?
thanks.
osu!

The blackbelt should be aware of his condition and signal that it is OK to pass him. In all other cases your right and it is not done to pass a blackbelt (it sounds weird, but its just "a rule" i was tought once). Sometimes the blackbelts just run in a circle inside the kyugrades circle and run the otherway... that way you also cant pass a blackbelt....

As a kid we had many B/B that also where older and not in shape as the young guns, we to would do the same But paid for it later...
I think we did it just for the pay back?!?
Think as it rank has it prvileges, not just for their rank but the time and knowledge...
Not all are in shape as you do to health issues or work load family etc. but the mind does have the knowledge.
You wouldn't run past the srg in bootcamp would you???

I must say that this is a pretty stupid rule (and one Ive never been aware of).
You train for your own benefit, not for his.
It is one thing if you re doing a long distance run and he is leading it -then you would not run past him, but during circle run in the dojo during warmup?
Being courteous and polite is fine, but dont overdo it.

I wouldnt want to call it stupid... it is kind off widely practised in our national organisation. when it amounts into a mayor running circles session, the slower higher graded will simply fall to the inner circle and signal it to be ok to pass them.... Also when i teach and i see one holding up the others and their not passing him/her i have them run the other way.... will take them a while to almost lap that slower person then i repeat the mawate....

I hadn't heard that one. I think when running in a circle you can amuse yourself /train harder by altering your running style if it's a bit slow (pump your arms, knees high, kick your butt) and I think overtaking is not necessary. On a training run though, if you can make a black belt eat your dust then doo it!!

Generally in our dojo running in a circle is just to warm up so even with the slowest most out of shape Black Belt (probably me ) there is still little reason to overtake. We generally change direction quite frequently so the Black belt as the front of the line becomes the back of the line.
