Music: What have you found recently?

It seems that music and the love for it are a reoccurring theme here at K4L,
SO what have you found that has shaken your wobbly bits recently??

I went to a 100yen record sale today and picked up a variety of music, not the least of which was two Soul II Soul albums and an album by Omar called Music.
The Omar album really gets me going and its 16 years old!!
Soul II Soul are just plain cool.

So What have yous???

Omar is great!
I listened to a track today by Frankie Millar called the "JJ Man" it was brilliant!! Best I heard in a long time, it was on jimmyjohnstone.com, it's unreleased so that's the only place I've seen/heard it. Osu!

I still like very much allmost everything from U2.
the album "The Unforgetable Fire" is my favourite.
Maybe it has something to do with a funeral on which one of the songs was played.
I remember it was very impressive.

Just dug out an old album by Dot Allison and had a listen again - very haunting.

I just picked up a cool album by a guy I had never heard of before - Jake Shimabukaro....A ukelele player. Man that guy can play! Also today, I bought Yehudi Menuhin on Violin playing Bach, and an album by 2 Australian Classical Guitarists - Slava and Leonard Grigoryan (Called "impressions").

I saw Jake Shimabukuro play live in Hawaii when I was there to run the Honolulu marathon several years ago (I completed the marathon by the way----just don't ask me my time!!)

He is quite impressive, and pushes the boundaries that have typically surrounded that style of music.

I first saw a video of him about 2 years back. He's really talented with the ukelele.

But listening to him makes me want to sip on a cold beverage, rather than do something productive. Haha.

Less Jake, more of something else!

Actually he has a brother who has released an album or two...

He gets a lot of coverage by the Japan media (76.1 InterFM, the English radio station has him on as a guest every time he is in town)....he is also featured in the Hawaii Tourism commercials...

I just bought Sonya Dada, Sonya Dada off Amazon. We had it 10 years ago but it got scratched but all the words came flooding back! Uncle & I sing it at the top of our lungs in the car... fortunately we have a VERY loud stereo.

I have to borrow from Australia's Silverchair. Their sound has really evolved over the years.

Recently started listneing to the Beatles again. I was in an Irish bar in Barcelona and they were playing tons of Beatles songs - everyone started singing along, it was a cracking night. Then the manager came down and asked us not to sing - IN AN IRISH BAR!!! What did he expect - we song louder.

Altogether now .....Hey Jude, Dont be afraid....
