Interview by:
JOANA MATUSHITA (1st Dan, 2001 Brasilian Championship Advanced Kata Runner-up)
With the responsibility of representing the Braganca Paulista academy, Andrews Nakahara, 24, Fabiano da Silva, 30, and Rogerio Cogo, 27, will be in the coasts with the purpose of training daily with the Kyokushin world champion, shihan Francisco Alves Filho. The privilege comes with a price. Each one of them left their natal city to dedicate themselves to their training. Andrews started out in Mogi daz Cruzes (SP), with sensei Marcos Furlan. Fabiano and Rogerio in Kyokushin Academy Liberdale. The three of them agree that the hardship was worth it, and that the best is yet to come.
What does participating in the World (Tournament) represent to you?
Andrews: To me, its an honor, for I am representing my country, my city, and Kyokushin Brasil.
Fabiano: A dream realized.
Rogerio: I am sure that it is a dream for any athlete to compete in the WT. For me, it represents conquering one part of the dream, the other is to have good ~rendimento~ (sorry dont know what that means) and to have a good placing in the tournament.
What are your expectations for the World (Tournament)?
Andrews: Im going to the WT with one tought : to be champion.
Fabiano: Ive already participated in two WT, ive acquired a lot of experience; with that, my expectations are the best: the highest point on the podium!
Rogerio: To put in practice all the training Ive been doing all these years.
With what foreign athlete would you like to fight. And why?
Andrews: I dont have any preference. Whoever comes, I will give it my maximum.
Fabiano: I dont have any preference.
Rogerio: I would like to fight the Polish athlete Krzysztof Habraszka, because he won the first fight we went to in New York.
Aside from the exhaustive physical training, how are you preparing mentally?
Andrews: Every night, I imagine myself fighting, every hour, with a different adversary.
Fabian: (I apologize once again, I couldnt translate any part of what Fabian said here) ~Fortaleço e alimento muito bem o meu subconsciente~.
Rogerio: I work with a sports psychologist. I have to visualize all the fights and everything they involve, even the feelings that I will have during those moments.
Give a message to your brasilian ~torcida~ (rooting-support squad?)
Andrews: Many positive thoughts for the whole team. With the support of everyone, certainly, we will come back with the world title. Ossu!!
Fabiano: I count with the strength of everyone. Many thanks to all that are with me. Ossu!!
Rogerio: I appreciate the raw positive energy that this support team gives us. It helps a lot! Ossu!!
