Curious Kyokushin Hopeful from Baltimore

Hi everyone, I found this forum and joined to ask about Kyokushin Karate. I just have a couple questions.

1) Does KK complement Western Boxing well? I'm currently studying Boxing.

2) Are there any KK schools in Baltimore, Maryland? I live in Baltimore and don't have a car, so going out of city is out of the question for the time being.

Thanks a lot.

Last thing, what martial arts are typically trained in a full-contact manner?

Osu welcome MuMuGuy.

1) Yes kyokushin and boxing go hand in hand. The experience with head strikes will help you avoid kicks..at least for a bit

2) Phoenix Karate is in Bethesda MD, is that too far for you? Link: Phoenix Karate Association Dojo Information

Welcome to the forum.
I hope to start boxing soon. I think the training and conditioning I get from it will greatly help with kyokushin in the future.

Welcome MuMuGuy,

I'd suggest looking for Karate clubs in general and then ask them what style they do - not all Kyokushin dojos advertise the fact they are Kyokushin.

Good luck!

Welcome!
The 2 things that boxers tend to have most trouble with in transitioning to Kyokushin are
  1. Making a good fist with no wrapping and no gloves
  2. Getting used to not punching to the face (without intending to).
Otherwise, boxing will be a boon, because you already know how to set up and deliver punches.

Can't help with you dojo question as I'm on the other side of the world!!!

Anyway - we have now reached the limit on posts in a welcome forum. I'll close it here. Hope you enjoy the rest of the forum.
