Sikaron Karate system
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this system? I've never heard of it before. BTW, thanks for all the welcomes on the "introduction" board.
From the federation website:The International Academy of Executive Protection Agents
Sikaron Karate was born from the traditional roots of Sikaran Karate, a Philippine foot fighting martial art which used the legs exclusively for kicking, leg & foot sweeps, and leg entanglements. The hands were only used to pull the opponent into the paralyzing and killing kicks of Sikaran Karate.
Cikaron Karate was founded in 1965 by Segi Tanaguchi and Art Skorka and brought to the United States in 1967 under the IOK International Organization of Karate. Cikaron karate an off-shoot of the traditional Sikaran Karate system, and incorporated Judo, Jujitsu and Karate techniques utilizing hand, punching and throwing techniques thus giving it a broader range of techniques and appeal to the Western world. Because the system changed, so did the name from Sikaran Karate to Cikaron Karate.
In 1985, Prof. Holifield created the Sikaron Karate system, an integrated fighting system incorporating Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, Hapkido, Combat Karate, Shotokan Karate, Ninjitsu, Hwrangdo, Knife-Fighting, Boxing, Grappling and Tameshiwari (Breaking). The Sikaron Karate system is a reality-based street fighting system geared for practical self defense applications. The Sikaron Karate system incorporates ten Kata forms, one for each of the following belt ranks

sounds like a mcdojo to me. no real background or real roots. it is just a bunch of martial arts thrown together and given a name. it could be a good style but sounds shaddy to me.

I dont have any personal experience of/with the style or the founder. But all my McDojo warning lights are flashing.
If its not McDojo it seems to make an effort to disguise itself as one.
Oh, and the Philippine art of Sikaran is not karate. Never was, never will be.

I would respectfully reject that Karate.
I am not a fan of martial arts clubs that have birthday parties, field trips, and the likes.
That martial art sounds like no good martial art at all really. You're teaching about 10 different martial arts supposedly but no base? I'm guessing Karate is the base of it all while you're using everything from Aikido to Ninjutsu?
I'd stay far away from that dojo, especially if you're ripping off the Sikaran name by changing one letter.
And someone enlighten me, what's the difference between 'Combat Karate' and the Karate that's their base? (Shikaron?)
Edit: Dang, 2 year bump and I didn't even notice.

The founder of this style runs a school here in the same town that I live. It is definitely a Mcdojo. They include elements of about 10 different styles and claim that the original comes from the Phillipines. The founder teaches combat tactics to the army, but his style definitely is mcdojo'esc.

Some units kind of "contract" martial art instructors from time to time and it's up to that Army unit..and unfortunately some times the people hiring these instructors shouldn't have anything to do with that process. When I was 21 or 22 I was offered to teach the Army Muay Thai and I said no and pointed them to my instructor. Looking back at this and now having been in the Army, I wouldn't want to hire any 21 or 22 year old to teach military members "combat tactics".
It's all "who in you know"..become friends with some military members (and one that hires instructors) and if you're a black belt in anything or hold any MMA or kickboxing title belt you too can teach the military martial arts to the military in the USA . It's a sad but scary truth and one I witnessed in a certain special forces unit in who they hired to train members some very very very crappy striking.

3 and a half years to reach black belt level??????? also taken from the mission page of the web site-
Instill discipline, self-respect, good manners, morals, a strong work ethic and self-esteem back into our children, as they are our future.
Provide the very best training possible to our students and to develop their mind and body to work together as one.
Instill a sense of pride and accomplishment in the student, that through hard work, dedication and discipline, they can accomplish anything!
Bring together Christian martial artist to associate themselves with a truly Christian martial arts association, and to help bring to Christ those who are seeking salvation through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Reach children and adults from all walks of life and educate them on God’s word and the importance of living a good Christian life.
Inform and educate the public that we are aware of the strong occult practices and powers entrenched in Asian culture, practices and academies and that we do not support these practices.
WTF!!!!!!!! that's just not right!!!!!

I also noticed on one of the pages that for each belt level you are given a scripture to learn
For each belt rank, there is a bible scripture taken out of the new testament. Students are required to study and learn these scriptures. Students testing for Black Belt must also learn the Ten Commandments

That's a really big deal over here, particularly in areas with a heavy Baptist population. I got suckered when attending what I thought was going to be a weekend of hard training, and it turned out to be light training on the Friday, followed by "Fellowship". Ok, my eyes narrowed a bit, but Saturday was close, so I figured I'd endure. Well, Saturday started with a prayer and bible reading and then it was announced that we would be spending the morning on a religious topic. (By now you could have blindfolded me with dental floss.)
I packed up and left.

No offense, but if I wanted to learn more about Christ, I would go to church and find 1 of many youth groups on my campus.
I'm not exactly a fan of Christian based martial arts either, fearing/paranoid that the Christian philosophy would interfere with the philosophy of the martial art.

Very funny gave me a good laugh.
Yes it sounds like it is more of a church that offers some physical activities than a martial arts school.
