Fun Quiz! Name that 1970's Kyokushin fighter..
Ok, not sure if this will work, but here is a picture from one of my books:
I can guess (and read) who most are, but can anyone else?
Some are easy, some are much, much harder...and were never seen, nor heard from again
Have fun.

Wow...it worked - I actually posted a thread that people replied on :-)
Good answers so far, and all are correct..
I am interested if anyone had heard of the fighter between Kenny Utenbogardt and Jeff Whybrow...?

He is "Feruhatsuto Ozuseruto" (I just read from the katakana so please fill in the correct spelling in English) and he was the Turkish fighter who got rolled over by a car in one of the original "Strongest Karate" movies.

Osu!
FYI, Shihan Kenny's surname is spelled: Uytenbogaardt (Which I think may be translated as "really, really tall man."

Second is Toshikazu Sato(?). Third is of course Takashi Azuma and the fifth looks like Sanpei.

:-)
I will post another shortly...
Glad everyone enjoyed it...
I am suprised that they didn't have a picture of either Sensei Has Lundgren (Dolph), or Shihan Tony Bowden from Australia - both guys gave the Japanese hell in that tournament. I think Shihan Bowden lost on weight (or boards) after many extensions to Kawabata in the 2nd Worlds..

Dear spanky11,
I think the above pictures were the "favorites" and Lundgren Shihan was pretty unheard of (in Japan) before that tournament (perhaps the same goes for Bowden Shihan?).

If I am not mistaken its Royama 2nd in 1st World's, Sato 4th in 1st Worlds, Azuma 3rd in 2nd Worlds beat Collins in last 8, Makoto Nakamura 2 time World Champ 79 and 84, Senpai 2nd 79 and 84 and 3 time All Japan and the last one is Noguchi 4th place in the selections and last to the one and only Ademir Da Costa in the 2nd Worlds.
Willie Williams 3rd in 2nd Worlds, Howard Collins 9th in 1st and 5th in 2nd Worlds plus 78 Euro Champ, Kenny Uytenbogaardt was not allowed to come in 79 due to aparthied and was defeated by Nick Da Costa in 84. The Turkish guy was featured on the Godhand having a car driven over his stomach but then got dropped with a punch to the body. Jeff Whybrow was 79 and 89 British Champ and fought in the best fight of the 2nd Worlds and Gary Klugewicz was the fighting cop from the USA who fought in 2nd and 3rd World's losing to another Brit Dave Greaves

Dear DMP,
Sato Toshikazu came 5th in the 1st WT (4th was Oishi Daigo).
Azuma Takashi came 4th in the 2nd WT (3rd was Willie Williams and you got that right in the 2nd paragraph).
By the way welcome to the forums and please drop by the introductions thread so other members can give you some welcome messages.

I'm pretty sure that Bernard Creton came 5th or 6th in the 79 tournament in Japan after coming 2nd in the British that same year.... can anyone confirm this? (although he's not in the picture)

Thanks Nix, I trained with him for about 12 years but he never talked much about it.....
NIx, I just noticed you are from Denmark, that is where Bernard is now based, he has clubs in the Viborg area, I attended about 10 summer camps in Sonderborg
