Francisco Filho vs Mirko Filipovic in K-1 MMA rules

I've just read an interview to Mirko Filipovic, where he says he might be facing Jerome Lebanner or Francisco Filho in his next fights under MMA rules.

So far he's planned to fight Sergey Kharitonov in the next K-1 Dream event but if he wins i can't wait to see him fighting against Filho Shihan (or Jerome Lebanner for that matter).

Does anybody know anything about Francsico Filho's condition at the moment? I wonde rif he's ready for such match after being absent for almost 2 years.

I hope it won t happen. There is a fighters career and a career after fighting tournaments. He won almost everything. World champion kyokushin; final off the K1 tournament. Many K1 titels.
It s time for him to stop as a Champion.

Same like when a sensei and club owner has to stop fighting tournaments. I don t mean to disrespect or don t believe in his skills. He is one off the best we ever had. But he had it, and I think he ll better prepare the new generation like he do with the academie.

Osu!

How better to prepare others than to have had the experience for yourself? Win, lose or draw, IMO some thing have to be felt to be understood. I see him as a greater champion for making the effort.

Nope,

To much is to much.
If he was 27 ok. But no more. I don t doubt he has the skills. You don t let Matsui or Midori enter the K1 do you? Let the younger generation fight.

Osu! Sublimo,

I see your point, although I'm not sure I could stop either of the M-men from entering anywhere they chose to.

Ouch! That "27" bit hurt. That was a long time ago for me, but I still find ways to test myself. Now, admittedly, I'm no great champion, but I do enjoy the competition. How much more so for those whose competitive fire has burned so brightly?

Osu!

It wouldn't be a smart move for Filho to fight Mirko in MMA simply because Mirko has MMA experience. If Filho had fights with people with a few MMA fights to 0 MMA fights and gradually built up his experience, maybe in a couple of years he could fight Mirko but in my opinion it would be foolish to do so right now.

Surely the decision is his to continue as it was for both Matsui and Midori to retire when they choose. If he wants to continue or quit right now and never teach - its up to him.

I do not think it is a good idea for Filho Shihan to venture into MMA fighting. I believe that he will lose by a big margin (if not nasty submission) against seasoned ground fighters. Some may say "this shows the Kyokushin spirit of always keep challenging" or whatsover but be realistic, he is a Kyokushin world champion and such a non-sighty loss will at least on the emotional level bring bad feelings to the students. I still remember the headlines of the news after he got KOed by Jerome Le Banner after he won the world tournament. An analogy will be the difference between the death of an ordinary citizen and the president of a country. Ideally speaking yes he should fight under MMA and other rules as a Karateka but being a world champion there are some "responsibilities" in the real world which one must always bear in mind.

Guys it's only a rumour. Mirko said in the interview that Filho is a possibility just as Lebanner is one too.

Here's te link: -->Sportal.hr - Mirko Filipović: Dopisujem se SMS porukama s Fjodorom

I agree that Filho may not be prepared to face a top grappler at this point but Mirko is nota top grappler. He's a striker so i give both 50% chances of winning. Besides Filho also has some MMA training.

Now is Filho willing to accept such fight? I think he might be. At least he has expressed his interest in competing in MMA, although it's not a priority for him right now.

I agree with what some of you stated in this thread that Filho has huge responsability of representing Kyokushin so losing in this case is not an option for sure. But i also understand that if you're a true fighter, you have that bug inside you that tells you to fight, to take the challenge and learn more, even if it means defeat.

Translation of the article:

While some people have trouble restraining themselves from food, alcohol or cigarrets, Mirko Filipović has trouble resisting training every day. Intense, devastating almost masohistic trainings have become a requirement for his body.

Mirko explains his addiction:
˝I fought on Saturday and on Wednesday I was already nervous. This is has has simply been my way of life since a very young age. That's the only life style I know. Sometimes even a weekend without training seems like an eternity.
But I have to make myself rest because I know it's a part of preparing for my next fight.˝

You defeated Mizuno in a very short time. Do you regret training for months only to finish the fight so quick. Have you thought of playing around with your opponent?

Mirko: I want to finish my every fight as soon as possible. This sport is too dangerous to be fooling around.

I don't fight for money

Profesor Jukic has revealed to us that the results of your psychophysical measurements are astonishing?

Mirko: My test results are even better than when I was 25 years of age, I think I'm even more explosive. I think I can ˝last˝ another year or so.

That's why I'm eager to fight more than ever before. It's not about the money it's about the fighting.

Is your main goal a rematch with Fedor?

Mirko: I'm not obsessed with Fedor, but Iwould like to fight him again. In order for the rematch to happen I have to keep winning.

I't going to be a big fight, even bigger than our first. Fedor is a legend of this sport and I respect him a lot. Above all he's a good human being.

We have even exchanged a few phone calls and text messages. When Van Damme was in Moscow at a fight event he put him (Fedor) on the phone.˝

Crocop expressed satisfaction with his cooperation with his new coach Marijan Zizanovic who is an advocat of fighting from a distance.

Mirko:˝By getting yourself in a crazy exchange in a fight you show great heart but not fighter savvy. The coach demands I get hit as less as possible.˝

Still training in a cage

Mirko has left the UFC but he keeps on training in the cage.

˝I have no problem transitioning from a cage to the ring but the other way around is a different story. I still hope I will fight in the cage again.˝

In order to do so Mirko will have to keep winning in the japanese ring. His next opponent will be an elite K1 fighter like LeBanner or Francisco Filho.

˝Whoever that may be I'll be ready to win.˝

Dear Sonik,
Thanks for the report.

Regarding the English translation of this part of the interview, I think maybe they are not suggesting "Le Banner" or "Francisco Filho" as the potential opponents of Mikro Crocop, but using these names as examples of elite K-1 fighters. Of course I cannot rule out the possibility of Filho Shihan's come back and because I cannot read the article in its original language so I have no right to make conclusions based on a translated article no matter how accurate the translation is. Anyone who can read the original article please add opinions.

If anything, he is paying a nice compliment to list F. Filho as an example of an elite fighter.

I agree. He could be listing Filho Shihan as an example only which as great compliment. The reason why i think this is possible is mainly because Filho has already expresed before his desire to compete in MMA or at least try it once.

New interview off crocop.

"1. It was your first fight after two defeats. Were you nervous about your comeback to the ring?

Mirko: I wasn't nervous, I've been fighting in the ring for many years and I feel at home in it. I was excited about fighting in Japan again.

2. You looked impressive in the ring. You bulked up, did you do it on purpose or did it just happen?

Mirko: Gaining muscle mass was a 6 months process and I did it primarily to increase my raw strength.

3. Your boxing techniques looked fresh? Did the work with Marijan Zizanovic pay off?

Mirko: We train really hard and it's for sure that some credits for it should be given to Marijan. He's a real expert, I should have started this cooperation even sooner. It's a sure thing that my stand-up techniques will look even better in my next fights.

4. Did you think, theoretically, about what would have happened if you had lost one more fight? You are much better than Mizuno, but a single punch in this sport can decide a winner?

Mirko: I don't think about defeats, I'm well motivated and focused on bigger fights in the future and wins, of course.

5. How did it feel to return back to Japan after the US episode? Your popularity in Japan is still incredible, Saitama (and the atmosphere) is looking almost exactly like in PRIDE?

Mirko: The feeling was just fantastic, we can say that Japan is my second home. Japanese fans really respect this sport and the fighters, while Saitama is a place of some good memories.

6. Mizuno was a good warming-up, now you have more serious challenges in front of you. There are rumors about LeBanner, your old friend from your very first K1 fight, that you won?

Mirko: DREAM has mentioned several names for my next fight, it appears that my next opponent could be someone from K1. If it's LeBanner, that will be a big fight that I'm looking forward to.

7. Is it true that there is a one out of three chance in DREAM that you could face Sergey Kharitonov, who was one of the most well-rounded fighters in PRIDE?

Mirko: It's possible, it depends on DREAM, I want to fight against well known, great fighters.

8. Do you think that worldwide media is being a little bit unfair to you, after you spoiled them with an almost perfect score in last few years? After a brilliant open weight Grand Prix finale, you suffered two defeats, which made many people say that you are finished and that you have never been a top fighter.

Mirko: I don't think about this, my job is to fight and to do the best I can. Everyone can have an opinion, but in order to have a complete picture about this sport, people should try it themselves. A low motivation is a major problem for a fighter, and opinions like this are actually very motivating.

9. Your trademark is the worldwide famous high kick. You destroyed dozens of opponents with that kick, but exactly the same kick was devastating for you against Gonzaga. Is it hard to get back on track after such a loss and is it mentally tough to get back to the ring/cage again?

Mirko: My biggest problem in the UFC was a mental blockade, I spoke about it a few times already. I was empty, my motivation was low, I had no real desire to win the fight. It's very expensive in a fight.

10. Do you have any regrets about joining the UFC? I believe the difference was bigger than you could imagine. The cage, the rules, the audience, even the fighting style. Have you been surprised by the quality of UFC fighters - it was a common belief that PRIDE fighters were better?

Mirko: It's just another lesson for me. The UFC has some great fighters and the game is very different. The cage makes a difference too, but I'm looking forward to my return to the cage as I want to prove that I can be successful in it.

11. You announced that you'll return to the UFC and fight Gonzaga, Kongo and Nogueira again?

Mirko: All options are open but in this moment I only think about my next fight.

12. Your former sparring partner and BJJ trainer, Fabrizio Werdum, is getting better and more successful. Some credits probably go to your team where Fabricio learned a majority of his stand-up techniques. How is your relation with Werdum at the moment, there were even stories told that you could fight him in the UFC?

Mirko: It's a fair relationship, we trained together and we separated in a friendly manner.

13. News about you is always very popular among Index's readers. Do you surf the net yourself? You have your own blog now?

Mirko: I'm relatively often online, I get around better. Almost every evening I visit Index's website after my training, it contains very interesting news. Since a while I also have my own blog on MMA ID where I post the latest information about my trainings, career and other interesting things."
