It was a great experience reading this. I train under Hanchi on a weekly basis, he just happens to have his dojo near where I live, and he teachers as a sport option at my college. I know his skill, and I know his wisdom. But because he is the only Sensei I have known sometimes I lose track of how important a figure he is within Kyokyushin. Reading this reminded me of that, and gave me a great surge of pride for my dojo to have such a great man teaching it.

This in particular moved me. He's said this to me many times, and although I recognized the wisdom in those words, seeing them written in his role as this historic figure somehow gave them more strength.
Apologies for a rather random post, but I felt I should say how I reacted to this interview.

Too right it has gone bloody fast, still a truly unique experience. Even as I read it back I get a sense of how relaxed and open Hans hi was, just a couple of guys talking in a bar, I have always held him in high esteem and he did not disappoint, I know he has issues - he's human - and others who know him differently see him differently but I take as I find and I still see him as 'what Kyokushin means to me' even though I have not been apart of his organization for 20 years.

I reckon you go for Shihan Liam this time, that man never fails to surprise me. From being able to kick me in the face faster to my surprise, than a few of the British fighters!!!! to winding me with one strike using one Knuckle (long story and being the lowest grade in the class I copped it that day, lol) to breaking the baseball bats last year.

Osu!!! Very great interview.
I like the writers style. given complete information, but very interesting and very alive. Ussually I get bored and go straight to the end if read that much, but I really enjoy this time. plus the homour. awesome.
Actually, I don't know Hanshi Arneil, In my dojo, it's not much telling story about the history of Kyokushin. But I know people from my country especially from my province. But from this interview I know who he is.
Osu!

Ive been privilged to have known Shihan Liam for more than 20 years now and have been on the receiving end of his demonstrations every time we train (and I wouldnt have it any other way). His technique is incredible. And as for the baseball bats - well that was impressive but Ive seen him take the top off a bottle with Shuto.

Interesting note about Liam Keaveney:
Roy Banton (who was a very good fighter in the late 70's early 80's) rated him as once of the toughest men he fought when they trained together at Haringay.
Don't be fooled by his friendly face and Chairmans manners, he can do the business when he needs to.

Gary Malcolm (RIP) also from Haringey once said "I have never been hit so hard in all my life" and described Liam as a "small framed man".
