I am very interested in seeing how you'll combine/ modify these two syllabi into a cohesive program.

I thought the same before I did it, but since I did it I am actually glad I have. I not saying that I'm anyway on the same level as Sosai but some people would say how do you combine Goju Ryu Karate with Shotokan Karate they are two different styles with 2 different ethoses.
The style is predominately Ashihara Karate with Grapling kata added like Naihanchi (tekki Shodan) and Shichi Hoshi Kata (from Tang Soo Do - Korean style). I've added Bassai Dai (this has 14 neck breaks with its core) and Niseishi (includes "Mawashi uke" in its core) as they are both Senior yudansha kata.

OSU Ronin-san
Yes 14 neck breaks are involved in the kata if you know where to look.
Here's the link to Abernethy Sensei website, Iain takes Bunkai to the next level.
http://iainabernethy.com/videos/videos_home.asp
as you can see, there is application/bunkai for quite a lot of kata there.
Hope it helps
OSU!!!!

First of all congratulations, Dobbersky!
Although my knowledge of Ashihara Karate is very small, I am very curious how you can add kata to your syllabus. Is it that these kata are tested at your grading or do you involve them into your teaching curriculum at everyday training? Or is it that you can train these kata if you want, but that would be strange imho, because nobody could deny you learning a kata?

Thanks GSeven-san and Welcome to the Forum
I have trained in various arts and as I am getting old training in 2 arts that I like can become too much as my club expands. When I formulated the style I discussed with my Wado Sensei, which Kata encompass Wado hence why I have them included in my system. For further information about the kata etc please look at the thread in knockdown karate where the title is Koku Tora Ryu - A New beginning and we can discuss it at further length there
Thanks again

It's strange looking at old posts, I was and still. So proud of this achievement, now that I have Graded for Sandan I feel like I can finally begin to learn my Karate, I don't have to worry about my own personal gradings (Yondan and above are Time served), just work on my Karate, OSU

OSU! Understand Dobbersky, I'm not there yet... still looking to compete for another year before knuckling down to do my Sandan, but I know that my Sensei felt that same sense of freedom once all the personal gradings were behind him...... I look forward to that day

OSU, Kaicho-sama, thank you for your kind words. Yes I was graded on my Syllabus. A good friend of mine who I've known for years graded me, he himself a Muay Thai teacher of 30+ years with many years experience of Shoto-Kai Karate, he's trained with me many times so understands the ethos of my Karate.
What's also strange is I still feel I have loads to learn, like I haven't yet scratched the surface, is that normal, LOL.
I also feel I got so much to give, OSU.

You welcome. You are fortunate to have such a friend. Not many people will issue or award promotions outside their style or organisation. Shotokai - that is a really demanding version of karate based on what I've seen.

Yep, we are but advanced beginners so still lots to learn and the more we interact with others, the more we learn.

That's a good attitude. When people want to join our organisation, I normally ask them what they can give instead of what they want from us. The more we give, the more we gain ...

Osu,
Congrats on the achievement Dobbersky.
I'll be following suit soon (couple of months ) and what you've said about "starting to learn my karate", that is my feel as well.
there's much to learn and more to know.
