Darren Chan of IFK makes IKF Debut
Darren Chan of IFK Kyokushin made his debut in IKF Full Contact Kickboxing on Saturday the 20th June.
After 4 months of training in this style he came straight out the blocks raring to go. But with all debuts he was slightly nervous and took some serious combinations to the head but covered up well and when counter attacking was put on canvas by a sweep whilst executing a Jodan mawash, not fazed by this, Darren remained on his game plan and slowed his opponant down with a back kick which landed perfectly and tried the his original combination again, dropping his opponent with a classy Jodan which downed his opponent and of which he couldn’t recover to beat the 10 count. All within 40 seconds.
Hopefully the first of many wins in this style of fighting for Darren who hopes to be competing in some K1 bouts throughout the year also.

Could you give us a quick introduction to the rules of "IKF Full Contact Kickboxing"?

OSU
Yes he is a good friend of mine, I stated training with him at his gym about 5 years ago and he was the one that got me into Kyokushin in the first place.
He is registered. I will tell him you said HI, would he know of you?
slightly off topic, we were in NZ last year and tried to train with Shihan Stephen Takiwa but when we got to the dojo the lesson had been cancelled.

Much congrats - I hope this is just going to be one of many tourneys we get to see this rare talent competing in and I assume he's going to still to compete at knockdown?

Congratulations to Darren on this result.
Darren expressed an interest to compete on some of the IKF amateur kickboxing events that I organise, and at one point was interested in challenging for one of the titles.
This would have been under amateur O.S.R. rules ( k-1 style, kicks-punches-knees ). I see that he made his debut under professional F.C.R. rules ( American kickboxing - full contact above the waist ).
Am sure he will do very well, especially coming from such a strong base.
---
# IKF rules are the same in Europe as the USA.
I should know as I was the I.K.F. European Director for two years, standing down only this month due to increased family commitments, ( the kids!!! ).
Osu!

Knockdown Karate is his love/priority and always will be...
He is fighting again (in IKF Kickboxing) on the 11th July and in a K1 rules contest on August 1st. Then it will be back to training for Knockdown as he will be fighting in the British Open and the Belgium Diamond Cup and maybe NKA Dutch Open towards the end of the year.

I.KF Southern Area Light Middle Weight Champion (Kickboxing)
6x2mins rounds.
Fight taken at 24 hours notice.
Not a lot of head movement going on due to being in Knockdown training mode for the British, Was loosing the first round on the score cards due to this and taking a lot of punches but came out the second round and dropped his opponent in 26 seconds with a Ushiro mawashi geri to claim the title.
