I honestly think this needs 24-48 hours to simmer down. Emotions are running high right now. I know when I last got hurt bad I wanted to destroy somebody that lied to people how I got hurt...even though I couldn't even walk at the time.

In my case I think it took a months, maybe a year to not feel this anymore but I'm a bit crazy. 24-48 hours will help you calm down a bit.

Where's that dirty paci when I need it most?

Thanks, XC. I needed that. I'm just going through a very very rough patch. I think my physical (& emotional) pain is clouding my reasoning. I love you, and I understand what you're saying. I did some substantial edits to my posts. I hope that helps, too.

Yesterday was heinous, excrutiatingly painful, and also the most wonderful day of my life, but I'll share the good part in person and on k4l at a later date (and under the influence of less pain killers). The Lord does really work in mysterious ways, Big Brother.

sandman & power, thanks for your pms. You are both right and very good friends to me.

Osu,

Nice read DD, don't worry, all pain disappears....regadless of the gap that it might leave.
And know you are always loved and cared for...... from far and near

Will remind you that at all times...........

It was great that you had a fun and wonderful experience..........minus the hurt.

Anne, are you OK?

Power: thanks for your support ( and taking my confessional)
XC: the pain killers don't take my pain away nor make me sleepy--just weepy
Mas: I love you, too!

Dojo/Night:
Home again Home again Jiggedy Jig---so happy to be at the dojo--even with my brace and sling on---The question of the night was: Are you ok? What happened? Hence tonight's theme song:

Seiza
Warm up with Mrs. XC (yayee yayee!)
Kihon with Mrs. XC AKA The Golden Child (mind bender with arm in sling--it was like solving a puzzle)

Small group with Mr. Gl:
He cracked me up because he kept teasing me by saying, "Tight fist!" (My messed up hand was kind of stuck in a permanent shuto-ish position; so he kept teasing me.)
I took off the sling and just tried to gently approximate correct arm position, asking him to imagine my right hand was actually making the most beautiful fist he'd ever seen. It was much easier once the sling was off for my brain to remember the moves.
Zen Shin Kotai x6
Kihon Kata Yondan x6 --learned that after shikodachi, you don't stay in zenkutsudachi but just mae geri as soon as you hit zenkutsudachi--I've got some practicing to do before testing in a few days!
Even though my pain hovered around 8/10, my body loved getting to train. It felt great. I really love my Yoshukai family, and it felt good to be home.

Ok, one more song. These guys are like The Ramones on acid.:

Seriously? They put me on that crap and I had to suffer through work (couldn't take it, lest I'd be asleep at the keyboard...) and at night the routine was "pill, load dishwasher, walk-faster-dude-or-else-you'll-fall-on-your-face-asleep-in-the-hallway". Best sleep I ever got though. I guess it treats everyone differently.

I'm not sure how many more times you're going to see the pregnant lady in the dojo...maybe not more than twice.

Overboard (I'm retiring "Mrs. XC"...along with XC), isn't supposed to be in the dojo after 7 months...so I guess she'll be practicing at home. At any rate, we're right at about 7 months

Here in my car I can only receive

Dojo/Night:
Seiza
Warm up with ushi deshi
Kihon with ushi deshi plus push ups (my new one-handed suckers ) and sit ups with ushi deshi (I'm totally going to work on getting the one-handed push ups down. I tried with my knees down tonight--argh--'cause I was afraid to face plant regular style. I guess I need the one hand to be more in the center and not out to the side--balance was challenging, and I didn't go down as far as normal for fear of face planting and more thumb damage...I'll keep working on them.)
Small group with Mr. S (senior):
Kihon Kata Shodan plus stances work
Seiza

It was great to see sandman and sandgirl training together.

I go see the hand specialist tomorrow; so I'll let you know if I need surgery, etc.

Tonight's theme song is a tribute to the sweet ride I got to take to the dojo in my mom's car (mine's in the shop on extended vacation):

Eh? I hope not!
The rocky type one handed pushups are easier to start with (spread legs, pushing hand coming from over the shoulder towards the inside center and other hand on your back)

Thanks for the tip, Freddie! I knew I could count on you for some one-handed push up motivation. I will try those tomorrow night at the dojo. I'll let you know what happens with the hand and the push ups, ok?
I'm going to try to get that south paw as strong as I can while the right one is out of commission.

Huh, what happened?. . . kidding. Hope the thumb injury requires no surgery, DD. It's superfluous but, hang in there. I know you will.

I'm also hoping for you that you don't need surgery
And I like it how you don't let your injury get in the way of your training, as long as ofcourse you give your hand the rest it needs, but doing something is much better than sitting at home doing nothing.

DD, Sorry, but I haven't gotten the video up (obviously, lol).

One hand pushups are an admirable feat; I used to try them, but I always felt like my breastbone was going to crack in half...then again that was back when my max bench press was 75LBS, lol. Give it hell!

I've tried them too and never managed to get more than 1 or 2, and that's with my strong hand. I'd never thought of starting off on the knees though - that sounds like a good way to build up to it. And I like your spunk - take a challenge and turn it into an opportunity. OSU!

I'm not sure I see the point of using them for training purposes. It looks to me more like a "look what I can do" type of thing. It takes a certain amount of strength and is impressive (not as much as one arm pullup though) but it looks as if it can cause shoulder problems if not careful. I avoid them.

Godai, I think it makes sense in DD's situation - a temporary way to at least keep her good arm strong. I don't think she has access to much equipment, so I see this as a decent alternative - provided she avoids shoulder injury (which is a good point you brought up).

That is where I start to wonder if there are better alternatives. A finger is one thing. Shoulder problems can ruin you.

At least proceed with caution

...that's about the only reason I ever wanted to do them, but I kinda agree with both you and Sandman's assessment...

DD, I plan to be in class tomorrow (still putting the house back together ), I'll try to think to bring you a resistance band...it's not a push up, but it might be your best bet

Thanks for advice and support, everyone! I will definitely keep up with the training. I am not worried about my shoulder, G. I will stop if I feel any shoulder pain. The shoulder that hurts is the one that has the arm in the sling. The deltoid is constantly working to maintain that sling position. It is actually increasing my definition in that shoulder dramatically. My kids were looking at my arm yesterday, and the Oracle said, "Look, Mommy, your arm looks like a boy's arm!" Then she made Doogie Howser MD look, too, and he agreed. So I guess the whole arm won't get totally weak during this injury as I feared. I want to buy some wrist/arm velcro weights to use, if i can, without moving the hand or grasping a hand weight.
Hangtime, I would appreciate a band to borrow! That's sweet!

Let's hope the doctor says I'm fine and just being a big baby who needs the dirty paci! I'll let you know when I return.
