Osu!
I hope that wasn't for grading... Seemed fairly disrespectful.

I respect the green belt's toughness, but I know as does everyone else. The shodan in the video was going light with him. I know that is not the way sparring is conducted in a kyokushin dojo. Sweat was pooring from the greenbelt. I see that the greenbelt was show boating a little. The greenbelt was prepared for the grading, if that was a grading highlight. They have to take grading more seriously or put 5th kyu against a really good blackbelt.

What is the rank listing for Kyokushin? It appeared the green belt wanted more and the BB was laughing at his request and complied with it by adding about 5-10%. Is that the disrespectful part, he wanted him to go harder??

Maybe I missed it, but what was disrespectful? I thought it was a very tough sparring session - no bogu, and they didn't really block or check - just some solid uke kaeshi. There was a little bit of playful attitude but nothing to the point where I thought this was a bad example. Actually I thought is was a good example and that's why I shared it. Osu!

I think the text reads, "A small test of fighting by Ricardo Tanus for a Karate belt" or something to that effect.
Didn't seem too disrespectful to me, just a bit of bravado among dojo-mates.

Just my opinion, but playing during a grading is a bad idea. It's a serious time, as much about attitude as anything. My experience would indicate that if a similar thing happened in a number of Dojo, the BB would have been allowed to up the pace and power, and the GB could have expected another several rounds of Kumite.

Then again, I do understand your point. Grading time is a serious time indeed, best to play a bit afterwards, right?

I think those that know me will agree that I rarely take life too seriously, and I'm all for Karate as a form of play, but I do feel that grading and tournament are (By necessity) a serious time. There's plenty of time for emotion and less focussed play during the rest of the training time.

I think Dent this is your opinion and end of the story. Peopel should respect but in this case looks like for the green belt was easy fight so I think is noting wrong with that.
