No Favorite combo, work all combos that can deliver the best attach to each individuel oppnent you face.
To stay a balanced and rounded {as well a flexable} fighter I believe you need to drop favorites for functional. One can pick out favorite combos and you endanger yourself to the fighters watching you, they come to expect these combo's when you fight and most often when you are pressured. Balance is one of many kys to be a good all around fighter. One must use all their tools often! |

oi tsuki >> gyaku tsuki >> gedan mawashi geri .. then after he starts expecting a gedan mawashi geri to follow up with a change... for instance: at the end fake gedan mawashi geri into Jodan Mawashi Geri? or if he attempts to Sune Uke the gedan mawashi geri to ashi barai the standing leg? OSU! One tool that I do not use very often is Mae Geri because I always seem to get toes caught on elbows.

1 2, 1 2 3, 1 2 3 4 etc
Does anyone think that a combo is ceated as the fight evolves, not before the fight even starts? |

Combinations
Jap Man, an interesting question in response to An interesting question - and it is also great to see all the various answers. I must say that I agree with Jap Man, to an extent.
When we train, we train our bodies and reflexes to respond in certain ways. We train our reactions by visualising different situations, or rehearsing with partners. But in kumite (or, heaven forbid, self defence), I am not going to waste any brainspace on thinking "Hmmm...time for combination number 273 now". That would be incompatible with the ideal of "no mindedness" or "Mushin". The thing is, when you think it, you may very well telegraph it. There is a great sci-fi story I have read about aliens invading who could read minds. They could anticipate every fight move...until a zen practitioner was sent in against them. Now that is what we need to aim for. Perfect unison of spirit and body, without the mind interfering. Osu |

seienchin,
quite right (except for the aliens part) I've always taught that one must fight without emotions, and with reactions without thought. Train the body and mind to "work" as one not needing to debate before reacting. That little voice in your head is lost time to react, when 100ths of a second count that is the difference from looking down or looking up from the floor. body lauguae is a mayor disciplene than it not taught nor ephasised to the point it should be. |

Osu!
what do You think about a (sorry if somebody wrote this combo before) - hidari kumite dachi, hidari jodan mawashi geri, and when the kicking foot reaches the land, immediately a hidari mae geri and after oi tsuki gyaku tsuki and a migi mawashi geri.. is it achievable and can be effective? |
