Shuto in Kumite?

Have you ever seen anyone using top fighters using shuto on thighs or other bodyparts? I'm just wondering why.. is it simply because the fighter might expose himself too much and get retaliated worse?

As far as I know open handed techniques are not allowed in Knockdown. I have seen fighters punch to the thighs especially when fighters come in with the front knee raised.

i heard that shuto is allowed for example on parts of the shouldermuscles and on every other part of the body that allows using fists on.

There are no rule banning open hand techniques from knockdown. You may strike with shuto or even with nukite if you want to -and can get it to work. Ofcourse, head, throat an neck -the most logical targets for these attacks are banned. I have seen shuto used against the collarbone in a WT (or was it a European championship??) -but dont ask me which one and by who -I have no clue. I just remember reacting to it since it was a attack against the collarbone and I belived that to be a foul -but the guy got away with it.

Ofcourse there is also rule §9,10 where they give a generar ban on "any technique the judges find objectionable" (my translation -my rule copy is in swedish).

The official IKO1 diagrams of foul techniques feature Ryu Narushima.

Shuto would be allowed as long as it doesn't target the neck and head regions.

The corner judges would blow lightly into their whistles if they think there are illegal techniques being performed. But the fighters can still continue fighting, illegal or not, until the center judge breaks them up and gives warning.
