Fighting bigger guys...
In New Zealand, in late november we will have an open tournament..

Me and Mustang may be entering the competition.. we both are below 70kgs more like 65KG.. We need some motivations here...

How about you train with bigger guys at dojo for the next few weeks, see how you handle them and then make a decision?

NzProud- I'm fighting, so is Dave senpai, and I'm sure that the other larger senpais will be only too happy to spar with you and mustang, I'm not that much bigger than you fullas anyways!!!
Think how much easier the nationals next year are gonna feel when you've experienced an open tournament.
The best thing you can do for your fighting is throw yourself in the deep end, neck deep in sh*t and see how well you swim. I think you will be suprised at what you are capable of.

we have a guys like that in our dojo as well. regardless if they are going into an open or weight division tournament, they spar with guys bigger than them. it gives you smaller guys an extreme boost in terms of kumite, because u will be able to take a blow from someone far bigger than you, and continuous fighting with bigger fighters will force your technique to gain strength. it is showing with the smaller guys in our dojo, they used to be my 'rest' fight, but now i gotta watch out, lol.

Dear nzproud,
First of all, more and more conditioning to build up the armour that stands the heavy beating!
Try to ask the big guy to throw one technique at a time. For example a mae geri. At first you try to avoid the technique with footwork, after that you practise fighting back with blocks and countering. And remember when you get hit once, you have to punch or kick back three to four times to get even! And the importance of footwork can never be more emphazised here. If you get nailed to one spot by a big guy or have him intercept you often while on on the move you will be crushed for sure.

OSU!

be very cautious of low leg kicks, they are brutal, this is coming from someone who fights in the heavyweight division.

How about if you don't do it you have to wear a skirt & breast protectors to training on a Monday or Wednesday?

Bigger vs Smaller
Osu,

May i suggest that you move around and spar with heavier opponents in the dojo to get a feel of what alterations you think need attention, but also make sure that as time draws nearer to the tournament or event, that you pay attention to lighter opponents which will assist you in speed / reaction timing defense.

Osu, i hope this helps.
